Anyone enjoy woodworking?

When our area finally started to open up my wife had a garage sale, so I put together some cheap ( fast and easy) cedar planter boxes to add to the odds and ends we had.
A few of them got sold, but it was after the garage sale that surprised me.
The garage sale ad I put up on FB marketplace started to get requests for more planters.
These weren't anything special, but for some reason people started buying them.
I made 4-5 different sizes. Some with legs and some without.
They were easy and cheap to make so I didn't ask much for them.
These are a couple I made.



So for the next 2-1/2 months I got so many requests, that all I was doing was making these.
I'll bet a sold 50-60 of them.

All along my plan was to make a few for my backyard, but every time I got some made, somebody would come along and buy them.

Then all of a sudden, the request stopped and I had time to make few for myself.









I'm currently working on a pair of 30" x 30" x 24" boxes, that will have a bench that spans the space between them.


It didn't take alot of skill to make them, but it's fun

Are they cedar? My wife wants some too but wasn't sure what material to use other than cedar or maybe cypress.

It is cedar. In fact it's Western Red Cedar fence boards from Lowes.
There are a couple places locally that used to sell the same product for about 35% less, ( last year ) but now they want you to buy a minimum 100 boards at a time and the price is within 10% of Lowes.
At first I had no idea this would take off like it did, but I didn't want to get stuck with a bunch of cedar boards, so I just stayed with Lowes.

Been playing around with epoxy and wood on some cutting boards I will gifting this holiday season. The first one was just experimenting with colors, the second one the bow tie is epoxy. I am working on one they walnut / dark contrasting wood strips will epoxy. Sorry if the photos did not flip.

Question for you guys. I’m building a deck is it ok to cut 2x8s and 4x4s when they are wet from rain outside?

When I was much younger I framed houses for a living and we worked outside rain or shine.
A lot of the wood we would get would so wet, if you missed the nail and just hit wood, I swear there would be a splash.
Plus, I've bought a few boards lately that even stored inside a big box store seemed awfully heavy from water weight.
So in answer to your question, you could use wet wood to build a deck.
I would not skimp on nails/screws/adhesive, cause when it does completely dry it's going to want to return to the shape of the tree, and not all trees are perfectly straight.

Finished a long await project. African Mahogany door with water glass lights. The molding holding the water glass are egg & dart.

Here's a blanket chest I built for my wife a Christmas or two ago. All in cherry with a tung oil finish, the inside was sealed with shellac.

Got a load of reclaimed barn wood for my aquarium furniture. Built and clad the stand & doors with rusty tin inserts. Going to add some smaller side cabinets with bookshelves up the sides and a canopy with a rusty tin roof to match the inserts in the doors. Takes a bit longer since the dimensions of the wood varies so much. Once it's done I'll seal everything up with poly to give it a nice clean look.

Well I waited so long to finish my aquarium stand project that a lot of my oak barn wood rotted from sitting out in the back yard. So we decided on a two tone look and I finally got the project finished up. I’m really happy with it and like the two tone look a lot. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but we have a very modern/rustic decor thing going on in our living room and this ties in nicely.
