Hi @Orphek, my question is - when running the moon program will there be some nights that the moon lighting is completely off and other nights the moonlighting is on? Because I am seeing that some nights the moon lights are not on. Thank you.

Orphek Atlantik iCon - each LED has its own protection cell, so the light will not split out of the tank !

All Orphek Atlantik and OR3 LED bars are built to be open with the possibility of
taking out the LENS easily. So, you can easily open Orphek OR LED bars and close them back without losing the IP67 water proof. This is Orphek’s patented technology!
You can watch how to do it in our video:

Atlantik LENs :

Atlantik units also have this feature.
We have been delivering this technology
for many years already. Orphek’s PR156 version from 2009 already came with this versatile feature. Back then people took out the LENS to get wide spread of 48 inch /120cm. This was just a 110w light! Today our Atlantik is a 230w light fixture, so you can get much better results!

Each LEDs has 120 degrees internal High quality Lens , so there is no problem to take out the lens .

For Deep aquarium you can order with 90d , 60d , 45d ,15d

corey
Hi Corey, good question, but not a simple answer, the test should be at the same condition same tank same size and water quality, same hight and with professional equipment, BRS did PAR test for atlantik v4 so thy do it at professional way , to get the answer thy should do the same .
Here is the v4 test thy did about 3 years ago ,

I seen the test. I have the V4. My lights are 17 inches above the tank and 12 inches into the tank I get 260 par. I was told by upgrading to iCon I would get more par, so I was curious about how much more I could expect.
thank you
Corey

Hi Cory , 260 Par at the bottom of the tank is more then perfect ! higher you will get much more .
not need to upgrade to get a better par, the upgrade can be to get a better spectrum.

I bought 2 Atlantiks 4 months ago along with a friend who also bought some. The lights we bought were the then new upgraded ones 2021.

There was no talk or indication of a new light then. Bit disappointed that if I want to upgrade them to the new icon it's going to cost quite a lot to do so. I am in the UK BTW.

It would be good customer care to offer all those who bought the improved 2021 lights off you to offer a good discount on the upgrade kit. I feel kind of cheated out of the icons. I would have waited for the icons to be available before purchasing my lights like many I believe

On the other hand it's good that Orphek continue to develop their lights and that they are upgradeable in future.
Bruh that was 2 years ago if you bought a 21 model of those lights. You can’t be serious here. It would be like me expecting ford to give me a discount on a new truck because the 21 model I bought isn’t like the new 23 model that I now envy. Sounds like a very entitled stance to take

Hi Actually there is a discount now at our online https://shop.orphek.com/
mostly we recommend to upgrade just the system not the LEDS .
But
The Atlantik first versions is from 2013 , 10 years already so clients with very old model can upgrade the LED PCB without buying new units.

Why to upgrade the old Atlantik 1,2,3,4, to iCon system ?
there is many benefit but mostly is

To fix the Biological clocks

Most organisms possess an array of genetically encoded biological clocks that coordinate internal physiology and anticipate rhythmic changes in the environment. These clocks are wound by various environmental cues known as zeitgebers (time givers), such as light and temperature.

Sunlight is the best-studied zeitgeber, (time giver), but it turns out that for many aquatic creatures, including fish, moonlight is just as crucial !!!

Well, most advanced researches shows that moonlight offers a similar spectral profile as sunlight, but 10^6 times less intense. Meaning that the moonlight has a similar profile of wavelengths as sunlight, but a million times fewer photons per time and area. This is why you need 1000% dimming control!

Orphek offers in Atlantik iCon full progressive dimming capacity in all channels. We are the first and only company in the world offering 1000% dimming control system (0-100% and 0.1-1% for Moon Cycle)!

Corals, like terrestrial plants need a photoperiod break or rest to carry out the biological processes that are required for good healthy growth.
Keeping regular moonlights of other LED solutions on throughout the night can have a negative reaction to your corals by not allowing them the rest they need.
Real moonlight produces no more than 0.2 and a high of 1 Lux in tropical latitudes. There is no measurable PAR, but corals and fish do sense the light being emitted because the moon reflects about 13% of the sun’s rays. Moonlight appears blue, but there is no blue in it and this is known as the Purkinje effect.

How it works?

During a month, your Atlantik iCon will start from 0% and it will continue to go up slowly, each day, by 0.067%. On the 15th day it will increase 1% reaching its peak and then, it will star to decrease slowly by 0.067% each day, to finally on the 30th day it will decrease to 0%.

Why the moonlight is important to corals and fish?

Lighting

For lighting, I use 5 Orphek Icon lights that I hang from a custom rack made of 80/20 Aluminum rail. When this tank was first started, I used 3 400 watt metal halides. As the LED trend started to take hold in the hobby, I took a cautious wait and see approach. I’m so pleased I did, as my eventual transition to Orphek LED lighting was seamless and easy. I originally went with the Atlantic V4 and upgraded to the Orphek Icon when the kits came out last year. I really like how Orphek allows me to upgrade as new versions of their lights come out, and the growth and color of my corals is better than it has been with any other light combination I have ever tried in my 30 years of reef keeping.

Downstairs on the frag tanks, I’m using several Orphek OR3 bars, Blue Plus and Sky Blue variety with t5 light supplementation.

This is more then perfect for fast coral growth .Btw 150 - 250 PAR
Figure 3. Maximum photosynthesis in the zooxanthellae in this Porites stony coral was achieved at about 200 µmol·m²·sec. At 350 µmol·m²·sec the rate of photosynthesis was about that seen at 75 µmol·m²·sec!
193C279A-3CD0-497E-B9FB-F4E7EE4B1326.jpeg

A close examination of Figure 3 reveals the maximum rate of photosynthesis (Saturation) was achieved at a light intensity of ~200 µmol·m²·sec and Dynamic Photoinhibition came into play shortly thereafter.

The take home message is this: These Porites corals living in waters only a few centimeters deep required only a fraction of the light intensity they will experience. Their zooxanthellae will be at a maximum rate of photosynthesis early in the morning, and their natural protective devices (the Xanthophyll Cycle) comes into play during mid-morning and protects them until light intensity drops in the late afternoon (assuming it is sunny all day.)
