Very nice build! How are you using the electric ball valve?
Hi, it’s not an electric ball valve it’s a membrane ball valve so I have to adjust I manually but its vary fine and easy to tune in. it cost a pretty penny though…
about 270 USD… :) but differently worth it :)

Cool! So it's on the drain line to the sump?

Gorgeous build! You're doing a great job. I love when reefers make their tanks "custom" on their own. It truly shows their creativity and work of art rather than just going through a company. Amazing job!!!

I needed a good place to mount all the electronics for the tank so I got one more cabinet from Ikea mounted next to the tank.
This will also help me to keep the equipment dry and away from all the humidity that the tank makes. The pictures are from the mounting job it looks a bit more organised now ;)
but still there is a lot of cables :)

Next on the to do list is to mount some fans in the cabinet sins 4 radion power supplies and all the other equipment gets a bit hot in the summer time so need some cooling :)
I don’t want to expose the equipment to more stress then needed :)

What a beautiful build! Love seeing our products on international builds. Following along, thanks for posting @alexjoha
Thank you :) I love your overflow box it works great :) had to make room for some more water back flow to the sump then I first thought I would need. Due to the gape under the overflow teeth :) over time when the tank is without power it will slowly drain down to the lower part of the bulk head :) but that just gave me a reason to change out the sump :) more on that later :)

I would love to have one of your sumps on my system it`s just too bad that the shipping from the US to Norway is almost as expensive as the sump itself :)

After a test of what would happen if I turned off the return pump for 2 hours I found out that my sump wasn’t large enough to take up all the back flowing water from the tank.
This was something that could be a problem for me so I had to go back to the drawing board and design a new sump.

I had been wanting a larger sump anyways so no problem for me :) just had to see how big I could make it :)
so all the equipment that didn’t need to be in the sump would be moved out and inn to the equipment cabinet instead :)

I used Sketchup to design the sump and a local glass shop to produce it.
I had been looking to buy a finished one from Synergy reef but the shipping from the US to Norway made it a bit over what I was willing to pay :)

The new sump and ATO container takes up all the space under the cabinet :)
so dosing containers and so forth had to be moved. The plan with the middle chamber on the sump is to have a frag area so I won’t need to clutter up the display tank :)

The reason I don’t want a separate system for frags is that I don’t want to have 2 system to monitor when I am away on work.
image_30339.jpg image_30340.jpg image_30341.jpg
Still some more work needed on the “stand” I need new doors and some more trim for that side of the stand :)
image_30338.jpg
I also needed to put a snail guard on the return pump after a few of them went in to the suction side on the pump :)

Introduction of corals

April 2016

Finally we could introduce some corals to the tank. Some of the corals are from the 55 gallon tank, and some of them are frags from fellow reefers :) Just need them to acclimate to the new tank light before final placement :)
I don’t have a good camera rig yet so I had to take the pictures with my phone but they are good enough for now :)

There is still some start up algae but the Tangs are working on it, at this rate it will be cleaned out in a week :)

If you have the names on any of them then please tell me :) I know a few but some of them I don’t know the names on :)

Corals after 6 months

I have had some problems keeping the parameters in the tank stable since I travel a lot. The pictures here are after a large drop in the ALK in the tank from 8.2dkh to 5.4dkh over a 2 week period I don’t know why it dropped so much over that time period since I was still dosing balling but guess it has to do with the coralline algae growth or something similar. The parameters are better now but it’s a challenge when I am away for so long periods of time to keep them spot on.

I don’t like uncertainty and like digital measurements so I got myself a Neptune Systems PMK module so that I could know the par settings in my new system.

12825240_10156747967020657_1215634081_n.jpg

It looks like I have more or less even coverage over the tank with the 4 radion G3 pros I have mounted on it.

13090349_10157012092675657_783707881_n.jpg

All measurements are taken over a 2 minute period, and are an average.

Sins I made the sump as large as possible I needed a new ATO tank. I made the tank tall and narrow but It can still hold over 22 gallons.
The only problem I faced with this design is that I could potentially get a syphon going from the ATO to the sump.
I solved this with a syphon break I made. If you guys are interested I can post a picture of it.
But basically it’s a pipe with and open end and the tube mounted in the center with air gaps on both sides.
