Hi Everyone. Dillington from central Maryland here. This is my first experience keeping a reef tank. I have kept numerous freshwater tanks in the past, including a freshwater stingray tank and a discus tank. The tank in the pictures below was started in mid april 2024 and is approaching two months old. I started the tank with a gifted piece of live rock and some Dr. Tims one and only. The tank cycled in less than a week. Here are some of the specs.
Equipment
- Tank is a fluval evo 13.5
- Fluval PS2 skimmer
- Intank Chamber 2 Chaeto refugium with JBJ Nano Led and filter floss
- ZKSJ Wavemaker connected to mini UPS
- Fluval 25W heater
- Inkbird Controller
- Tunze Osmolator ATO
-Seneye reef
- Fritz RPM salt
Critters
2x Ocellaris clownfish
1x Tailspot blenny
1x Neon Goby
1 x Turbo snail
2 x blue leg hermits
2 x Trochus snails
2 x Nassarius snails
1 x Astrea snail
1 x Green star polyp
1 x green cabbage leather
1 x unknown zoa
1 x AOI zoa
1 x green hammer
1 x frogspawn
1 x superman discosoma
1 x bubblegum monti
1 x purple stylophora
1 x duncan
Testing and Parameters
The tank goes through a full suite of tests daily using Hanna colorimeters. Here are the typical ranges
pH - 7.8 - 8.3
Nitrate 3-7 ppm
Phosphate .03 - .1 ppm
dKH 8.0 - 8.8
Salinity 1.025
Calcium 420-450 ppm
Magnesium 1350-1400 ppm
Upgrades in the works
I have a kraken reef lid being made and will install that alongside an AI Prime HD when it arrives
A BRS co2 scrubber to keep my pH over 8.0 . My tank is in my office and I have noticed significant trends of me being present in the room significantly pushing pH down. The chaeto refugium helped but more is still needed.
