How much more noticeable is the Nero 7’s flow compared to the 5?

I have one Nero 5 and an MP10 on the other end. I’m going to replace the MP10 soon because my glass is slightly too thick for it and I have to run it at 100% all the time. It still falls off from time to time and I really hate having to buy new wet sides.

I’ve been nothing but thrilled with my Nero 5, and an MP40 is out of the question. The extra cost isn’t worth the “no cords in tank” aspect to me and that’s not even accounting for replacement wet sides

It’s the same flow profile, wide cones and relatively diffuse compared to the MPs, but much higher volume.

I have my old Nero5s sitting side-by-side on the far end of the peninsula synced with the Nero7s. The 5s were previously on a 48l x 16h” tank, now on a 60l x 24h” peninsula, the flow they created at on far end of the 48” was gentler than what the 7 is doing on the far end of the 60” — only measuring based on my magnifica anemone, which looks like it was getting more turbulence from the 7s alone.

I must admit I’m thinking of upgrading my two old Tunze 6100’s next year to Two Nero 7’s… In terms of how quiet Nero’s are, I’d say that they are the quietest pumps I own; in order quiet to noisy (I own two of each, and as both In each pair seem identical, I think it’s fair to say there’s no wild cards here!)
So Quitest > Noisiest
Nero 5 > Gyre XF350 > Tunze 6100 > Sicce Xstream SDC8500

Very disappointed with the Sicce’s - very noisy from new, haven’t quietened down at all and just don’t seem to have the oomph that they claim to. App frequently doesn’t work, and won’t allow you to make changes. The Tunze are still very good for their age… one of them is the brown cases one which could feasibly be 20 years old! In terms of quantifying the noise, The Sicce make as much as the others and the Mantis Tornado 12,000 return pump combined.

The Nero 5’s have always been absolutely silent.

TIL my torches want A LOT more flow than I’ve given them. I thought this level of flow would kill them. I thought wrong.

I wanted to provide a brief update on my experience with the Nero 7. After careful consideration, I've decided against purchasing another one due to its noise levels. From the beginning, there has been a consistent 'whir' sound, particularly noticeable at higher flow settings. Despite owning the Nero 7 for approximately six months, allowing ample time for any potential break-in period, the noise persists. Despite multiple cleanings and disassemblies, it remains the loudest piece of equipment in my aquarium setup. While it effectively functions as a wavemaker for those tolerant of noise, personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

For what it is worth - this was not my experience, and I'm quite particular about noise coming from my aquarium. I never run my powerheads at a 100 though as they will all be audible at that level, but anything up to 80 I think is great. Just my two cents.

Great video. Thanks! :)

How is the noise level compared to the MP40? I have 2x MP40s but when they run over 40% ish they become audible. Nothing crazy at only 40, but I've done a lot to keep the tank super silent, so it's annoying. (custom fan control on my light fixture, super over-sized return pump running on lowest setting possible etc... )

Also, how is the flow compared to the MP40? I don't really trust the numbers they provide :p How would you compare the two at similar settings?

I'm hoping for a pump i can run at a level that provides about the same flow as an MP40 on 75% with next to zero noise.

Does anyone know if you can put the magnet on the Nero's underwater? I'm thinking about having them attach to an overflow box, which will be submerged.

Looking into getting ai nero 7's or ai orbit 4's for my waterbox 290.6 (72.3"x29.5"x25.6"). Any recommendations on how many I would need? Also placement for them? Going to be sps/lps tank.

I was also thinking maybe 2 ai orbit 4s on back wall sideways pushing water towards overflow box.
then having 2 ai nero 7s on each side? How would yall place these wavemakers in this size system?
