Unless its the fish guard hiding the inside mount. I don't use that. If so, I apologize for previous post, but I can't tell from the video...

The fish guard is stupid on these anyways, just take it off.

You gotta use the inside mount! You got the thing directly bouncing off your glass. This is why I have a hard time taking bad reviews of products seriously...

It´s there you just cant see it because im using the fish guard which hides it.

Yeah its the fishguard thats hiding it, the inside magnet is there. I contacted the reseller in europe or whatever its called, he told me they found that it takes some time for neros to break in so i should run it for a month and see. So i guess i will do that.

Did you try taking the fish guard off? Even if just for a moment to see if it changed the sound? I think that vibrates off the glass. I didn't know this but after watching a video from Nero, apparently you cannot angle the power head if you do use the guard. You can only angle it if you do NOT use the fish guard. I used the fish guard in the beginning, but they get clogged up and just seemed clunky, so I took them off. I personally haven't had a fish get stuck in them yet... my Hippo used to pin itself against the suction part when it was a baby and it used to make me super nervous. As much as I tried to get him to move, he would go right back to it and felt 100% comfortable there. He would come and go as he pleased. Never got stuck though.

How long did that take? Im not very optimistic since my Nero 3 never got much better. The sound is exactly the same as well, only it starts earlier than on the nero 3. I can hear it at about 35 %, at 60% it starts to get annoying and ofc it just gets worse higher than that. I should say that my tank is pretty much completely silent otherwise so its really noticable.

I recorded a video comparing the Nero 7 at 75% and SLW-20 running at 100%. The background noise is an AC unit.

Are you the one selling these on eBay?

how did the noise level play out? I was looking into getting nero 7's but i keep hearing the same thing. They are loud. I wanted to put two on a waterbox reef lx 290.6. Its 19mm thick glass. I thought they would be perfect.

Any other pump suggestions if these dont work out?

I had mine in a bucket running at 50-70% for 3 weeks but the sound did not get any better for me. So i bought tunze 6095 with cloud controller instead, which is almost completely silent. Its a weaker pump but nero 7 was way overkill for me anyway. I did try 6105 also which was also silent, but it was huge in my tank so i went with 6095.

It all depends on how you will be running them. If you are running them at 100%, you are going to hear them hum. I have both of mine running mine mostly on "Random" pattern with a max output at 40%. Anything higher than that and I will get sand moving around. Granted, mine are on the back wall of the tank shooting towards the front glass and are used in conjunction with 2 Octo Pulse 4's (one on each side glass). My tank is 6'ft long. I did use the Nero 7's on the side glass for a long time successfully. However, I picked up the two Octo Pulse 4's WITH the Wave Engine-LE for a STEAL on Black Friday. The Nero's have a much wider and all encompassing flow, where the Octo's output more of a stream-lined flow (still very nice and wide though!). If I was using the Nero's on the side glass shooting at each other, I would ramp them up a little higher, maybe using a random pattern of up to 70%. Anything higher than 70%, then I get sand moving, and my Torches get blown crazy. Also, 70% seems to be the "sweet spot" from where I hear complete silence... then as it ramps up higher than 70%, I start to hear a slight hum, which gets louder as the percentage goes up. I do run a "Pulse" pattern that I use near lights-out for 30 minutes (to stir up detritus into the overflow), that does 3 seconds on at 100%, then 5 seconds off. The display is in my living room, and I can hear the hum for sure during the pulse pattern... but if the TV is on, I really have to listen hard to hear it. If the room was silent, it would be very noticeable, however I don't think it would bother me too much.

The Octo's also make a similar hum from 70%-100%, maybe a tiny bit quieter, but I haven't tested them side by side to be sure of this statement.

Both the Nero's and the Octo's have very slim magnets on the outside of the glass, which I like. I personally dislike the look of the large motor with the wire on the outside glass (Vortech). Although I'm not a big fan of having wires inside the display, they are not really noticeable, in my case, with all 4 power head wires in the display. Since I built my display to look "in-wall" I have little clearance between the glass and the inside walls on three sides. The slim magnets allow me to position the power heads wherever I want them. With Vortech's, I wouldn't be able to fit the motors between the wall and glass.

That's everything I can think of right now... Hope that helps you out with your decision!

ty for explaining! Yeah my tank is going to be 6 ft long by 30 inch wide and 25.6 high. I was debating nero 7s or going with maxspect gyre 350s. I have the gyre 330s on my 75G and only have to run them at 40%. I tried pushing them higher before and still 0 noise just way too much flow lol.

I was thinking about running ai nero 7s for now on back wall. then add maxspect gyres later on if i need addition flow. If not trying out the ai orbit (keeping the same brand of pumps).

It would drive me crazy if they ended up being super loud. Idk if i would need to run them higher than 70%. If thats the case I may give them a shot.

My tank is same exact size lol. Actually you got me by .9" on the height! I think your idea with the Nero's and Gyres might be pretty cool. You could do the Nero's for now, until you need the gyres, or orbits. Or you could do 4 Nero 7's and be perfectly happy with that as well! They work great on the back wall because the flow they put out is the size of a basketball only like 4 inches from the pump. I think they are pretty nice. The fish-guards are terrible though, that is my one complaint. If you NEED a fish guard, you cannot angle the flow, it has to be straight pretty much. AND, they clog up kinda easy with algae, shrimp molts, etc... I run mine with no guards. I think the guards make them louder too, because technically they could contact the glass and create a vibration. One of my Nero's was loud on day 1 and I thought I would have to return it, but I was running them dry before I put them in the tank. It just needed to run in the water for a little bit. Day 2 it was fine.

How would you place 4 nero 7s? Also thats true I'm just gonna get 2 nero 7s try them out and go from there. Tank still will have to cycle so i got time.

One on each side glass (left side, right side) blasting flow into each other making a nice varying turbulent flow, two on the back glass producing flow towards the front glass, run at a slower rpm to eliminate any dead spots. My overflow is internal, so I kinda needed them on the back glass because I do have some dead spots along the back of the tank due to the internal overflow located dead center of the tank. I wish I had figured out a way to have done my build with an external overflow. I would have had to bump out the wall in my bathroom where the external overflow would take up the wall space behind the tank... I coulda, shoulda done it though. The internal overflow takes up valuable real-estate in the display.

yeah thats why i was thinking maybe some orbit 4s. put on the back glass to throw some flow towards the internal overflow box.

What setting did you put ur nero7s on? random flow? i was thinking random flow varying from 30-65%? going from there once i see how the flow looks. I'm going to start with 2 and see how it goes. I won't have coral for awhile so i think it will be fine.

That's funny actually, those were pretty much my exact settings. I think it was 25%-70% when I had them on the side glass. I did always run a pulse setting @100% at night and in the morning to stir up crap on the sand, and blow the rocks off. I like the Nero's on the back glass because the flow is so wide. Like I said before, its like Basketball size width if you put your hand 4-6 inches from the power-head. You can really tell what it's doing if you add some AB+ near the power-head. It's fluorescent green so you can see the flow really well. If I didn't get such a great deal on the Octo 4's, I would have just got 2 more Nero's 7's. But I started my tank with 2 Nero's, until I needed more flow about 6 months later. Keep me posted on how you like them!

Will do! Thanks for ur help. Yeah I may play around with putting them on the back wall. I’ll see how it goes.
