Hello everyone,

My Naso Tang has been in my tank for roughly three years and has never had an issue until now. He is not eating and is showing signs of very rapid weight loss. Just two days ago, he was eating and looked completely healthy, but today he looks drastically different. He’s swimming around just fine, and all the other fish and corals appear normal.

Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately for about 19months now- this has been a trend. An influx of these fish are coming from Sri Lanka and it is suspected that a method of capture is contributing to this trend in which the fish appears healthy the first few days and then weakens quickly with loss of appetite and strength and as you found laying on its side, thin body and breathing heavy until death. It may be due to cyanide capture but unconfirmed.
Sorry to hear of this and being the bearer of bad news. Often in this state of health , recovery is very low as they are moribund and adding air stone may or may not help, but there is no additive that can be recommended for this
Fish is getting thin which is of concern

Ive had him for about 3 years now.

The blonde naso issue that we are seeing is confined to newly acquired ones - less than perhaps 3 months in captivity.

I can't say what's going on here - it seems odd to me that the naso got thin so fast. Generally, I find that naso tangs hold their weight well, even when not eating properly.

It could have a blockage, but unless the blockage is up in its throat, blockages tend to also cause abdominal swelling.

going to try and quarantine with prazipro and metroplex in the event it’s an internal parasite.
That’s probably your best bet, but I’m not confident that parasites are the issue here - generally, those don’t cause a fish to completely stop eating, they just eat and continue to lose weight.

Yeah. I’m not sure either. I just don’t know what else I can try without causing more damage.
