I owe ETRC a big debt of gratitude. You see, had we not had or disagreement I would have likely been at the July meeting. If I had been, my life might be much different today.

At the time of the meeting my wife had a seizure. It was found to be a brain tumor. The tumor was partially removed surgically on the first of August and found to be benign. Friday, as a complication of the surgery, she suffered a moderate stroke. Parts of her left side are paralyzed but thanks to God and everyone's prayers she should recover with minimal damage. We found a great recovery facility here at Vanderbilt that has been doing great things and we're both very optimistic.

Please everyone, live today like it is your last and don't let the petty stuff get in the way. Barb is 44 and too young for this but she's determined to live a full life and achieve her goals.

Thanks for the reminder. We all tend to lose sight of what is really important. I pray for your wife's quick recovery.

My prayers and best wishes go out to barb, she's a strong woman. In this whole thing called life most things are petty. I hope barb has a smooth easy recovery, and hope to see you both in the future.

Wow, such an unfortunate turn of events. Luckily you were there to respond to her stroke. Thoughts are with you.

Wow that's terrible Dave, but I'm glad to hear that things have stabilized somewhat. Best wishes to Barb, you, and the whole family from all of us. If there's ANYTHING we can do please don't hesitate to ask. Take care.

She will be home tomorrow and has recovered many of her motor skills (but still has a lot of work ahead of her). Fortunately, the pathology on the tumor was such that her life expectancy is quite good but she will still have to undergo extensive chemo and PT and OT from the stroke. Thanks to everyone for all their prayers and well-wishes.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Another member requested an update so I'll do it here.

She will be resuming her PT, OT and ST at Patricia Neal next week. She is able to shower, dress, feed, walk with the help of a cane and do most things you and I take for granted. Her left arm, primarily from the wrist down, is fairly paralyzed but she occasionally amazes me with random squeezes of my hand and what-not. She still tires easily but that will take time. All-in-all she's doing well as Jake and Russell can attest to (I had to pick up food the other day and she tagged along). She has to start chemo for 1 year, 5 days a week per month, next week and we're not looking forward to that but if it further shrinks the oligodendroglioma further then it will be for the best. Her tumor is quite rare and hence the medical research is somewhat limited but due to the genetic defect that apparently can cause it it does apparently respond quite well to chemo. She too young and has too much life ahead of her for us to consider radiation at this time. As far as help goes I can't imagine what we need at the moment but if we do have to go back to Vanderbilt for another extended visit I may ask for some help feeding the fish.
