Welcome to the group !! I as well started this 6 days ago good luck ! On yours and hopefully we will also be successful in this hobby

Love that!!! Is that a 30 gallon?? Are you using dry or seeded live rock?

I’m still waiting for my live rock to come in- Very nervous it’ll cause an ammonia spike and mass murder my current stock— we’ll see.

Welp.

Tank was doing really well until I came home today, Immediately noticed a strong cat urine smell and brought out the tests.

PH tanked again from 8.0/8.1 to 7.6.
Ammonia climbed to .2
I think the combination of the low acidic ph with ammonia present makes that terrible smell.

Fish and Cuc were a little stressed but still ate and did well.
Ran to walmart before they closed to top off on RODI water, got an air bubbler too.

Aerated the water and raised the PH to 8.2 and ammonia Dropped drastically.
Going to let it drop overnight and return the bubbler in the morning.

It’s either A.) not enough flow/surface agitation
Or
B.) too much CO2 in room. (Very likely.)

Will put the theory to the test and ramp up water flow tomorrow/when powerhead comes in. If it’s the CO2, might have to look into getting a nano skimmer for a permanent fix.

In the meantime— my Yasha goby has gotten very brave!! My wrasse is scared of his own shadow yet. Sorry for poor quality.

- received voyager nano wavemaker by sicce today.

Discovered what might be my root problem: Pink slime algae/bacteria coating my bio net and bio balls.
I was worried about my wrasse this morning, but he’s doing fine. Think he didn’t get enough sleep :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

If things hold out and return to normal, adding first corals tomorrow. If not, they’ll go into QT.

Here’s shrimp being cute for tax!

FIRST CORALS they already opened, I love them.

They started to open as SOON as I began to acclimate them. They really seemed to enjoy my params.

Closed up after Coralrx dip, then opened right back up in display!

- Hairy Mushroom
- Teal frogspawn
- ….Unknown xD

Frogspawn started opening but dropped, I’ll Let it acclimate for a few days then I’ll probably up the flow with a new powerhead that just came in.

Got my macros!!!!

AND I GOT STRING OF PEARLS ! I feel like I just won the lottery, I love them!

Going to let them acclimate while I go return some things to the store, I need to find something to put my hermit crabs in. I think I might make a jar for my hermits.

Coral update:

Had a 3-5 hour power outage with tank being 100% down.

Woke up today:

Hair mushroom growing over the frag
Frogspawn seems to be reproducing and splitting

Crazy to me- this tank is 1 month old I expected my corals to be Barely hanging in there! Not thriving.

The two Zoas pictured are Angry. One got dipped and thrown in today, the pinks got dinos all over them and the cerith keeps rocking their world. Hopefully they’ll open tomorrow.

I have been over feeding lately.

I think this tank is done :star-struck:
