3 days blackout... didn't work.
I still can see the "pale dino" trace on the sand...

Diamond goby disapear "probably dead"
He was the only one i could see all the time and the last 2 week he was rarely out...
Spike in no3 +8ppm (i didn't blackout the fuge)
And po4 +0.1...

for the last month, the diamond goby wasn't sifting the sand as is use to do.
He was losing weight, even if he eat my home made freeze food.

So maybe i got junk on the sand because he wasn't sifting or he wasn't sifting because of the dino (could be diatom, it's hard to tell).

i keep my last diamond goby like 4 years before selling him.
I don't really understand the lost.
Anyway, i don't feel like buy a other one.

will put a fitting conch in the next day and keep only low blue light for sometimes.

I forgot to say, I started using "aq life source"(1 big scoop) with a standard mix of calcium carbonate. I don't know if it really helps, but I guess it doesn't hurt. (uv off until water becomes clear again)

Add a conch some day ago and keeping tank at low PAR.
I doubt that the fighting conch can keep the sand clear as the diamond goby did.
The more i observe and think...
The diamond goby was sick /stop eating and the sand got "dirty" (diatom or dino)
They are still there but low light keep them at bay for now.

Will have to put a other diamond goby...or cucumber ?
Sps are starting to be brown under such low light...
Time to make a move... next week...

No3 from the dead fish start to go down...

Some update.
a few days ago i added a new diamond goby, cleaner shrimp and
2x firefish (one is a bit smaller than the other and they always stay together) i hope it's "a pair".
For the junk that covered the sand, the worst is over, most likely the new UV and a better adapted flow play a good role.
I start to increase, slowly, the intensity of the light.
i can't wait to see the growth and the colors come back again.

I was today years old...
when I discovered that peppermint shrimp could eat chiton...

Light % back to normal.
Coral growth back to normal.
Dino back on sand... ain't gona turn light off or % down again...

But when the mat is more developed i siphoned the first layer of sand.
Clean the sand in hot water, put it in a large/flat container whit some AQ life source (why not) and let it sit in the dark sump...(~2week).
After... return to the tank...

So it's 2 week cycle some sand out/seeded sand in...repeat.

Ps: less then 1 inch sand in container...
more than this = some odor and black layer appear...

Don't know what type of dino i have but it's not the one that do long bubbling string...

Yes, canon rebel xti whit stock lenses (cheap & lack of sharpness)
Sometimes i use the 50mm lense "for the price" have a really good sharpness.

He was a little thin when I bought him but seemed in good shape.

I fed him once a day with my blender preparation of frozen scallops/selcon/vitachem. He ate every day but remained thin...
his head was disproportionate compared to his increasingly rickety body.
August-September scallops every day (60 meals!) nothing to do, still thin, maybe even thinner.

At the beginning of October I started adding live oysters cut into pieces.
There was a direct change after 2 oysters (1 week)! Yeah right...
I didn't really believe it at first but I increased to 3 oysters/week.

I'm at about 6 oysters total since the beginning and his weight gain is phenomenal. like WOW !

I'm going to have to buy oysters more often for myself... and the tank.

it's possibly "somewhat related"... or not!
but whatever.
i don't need to hold my breath anymore.

i'm very happy with 2 things.

-syphoning the sand areas with dino/rinsing and resting in the sump.
it worked faster and better than expected !

- feeding with fresh oysters and the HUGE weight gain of the diamond goby.
That was unexpected!..... i am relieved!
