When you stare at them everyday, you won't notice the growth. But if you take picture of them every month or two and compare, you will amazed how fast they are growing.

Great thread!
I am curious how you decide where to place your sps? Are they all movable or do you let them encrust on the main rockwork?
Basically, can you explain your process from when you get a new frag to it's permanent location?

I usually already had a place for every new frag in my mind before I got them.
Every time I plan to get something, I usually google the colony picture to see what color, shape,light needed, grow pattern....then decide where it should be placed in my tank.
So I when a new frag coming, I only do temperature acclimate then cut them of the frag plug and mount direct to the rock work. (I have had a very very bad habit not dipping coral!)
However, sometimes I still have to move them around because some frags doesn't seem growing, or simply I need that "prime" place for my new baby!
Like these two had moved recently because they don't grow at all since I got them 03/15.
Very cool tenuis when red polyps. It encrusted a little after I got it, then for some reason, it stop right there.
I recently chop 3 frags out of it, one I keep in the frag tank, the other two went to my friends. I want to see if the frags will do something?! [emoji848]
When it's at "prime time"
Another piece that is very stubborn. This acro has a very bright gold color. I was surprised when took it out of the water. Just like a gold stick! Didn't even encrusted ever since! [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
He now glued to the glass.
Another one that are not growing is ice fire echinata and my blue milli.

Also, if you place a frag and it ends up "unhappy" what things do you look for to indicate to you it might need to be moved?

- It is not happy: if so, it will not encrust or encrust just a little to the rock. In this case, it will be very easy to remove.
- It happy, growing, encrusting but you want to move it to save space for the others. Then sadly you have to sacrifice! [emoji28] For me, if a frag encrusted to the rock, I wouldn't move it anywhere.
Second question: there are many indications of a frag not happy where it placed such as no polyps extension, no positive color change (stay brown, bleach), no sign of encrustation...
Acros are just like wifey, you will know if they are happy or not. They don't need to actually "tell" you about that! [emoji12]
Example:
This picture was took on 01/17/17: 5 days since I got it.
This picture was took yesterday:01/25/17 : 13 days in my tank, 8 days since first picture.
You can tell it change color a bit, look definitely happier a bit since last pic right?!

I do see the difference. Unfortunately, in my case, the photos are generally reversed. They look like your "after" pic when I first get them and look like your "before" pic after some days in my tank.
It would seem none are very happy, slow to encrust, if at all, drab colors....I guess I will have to ask them why they aren't happy.;Depressed

I run the fuge light for 18~20hours per day.
My secret is placing the light very close to the water! My light is just 1/2"~ 1" above the water when the return pump is off.
It helps but it a little scary. Last time I had an overflow incident, when I turned off the return pump, the water covered half of the bulb! [emoji33]
I usually remove chaeto around 2~3 weeks when it grow out of the water like this:
