The cpr aquafuge looks nice but a ton of $$. I used a hang on the back breader box with a 50 gph powerhead . Then i added a cheap led light on the top. I have way more pods all through my tank than i expected. Everyone was converting filters, but, i wanted less flow.
this is what I used, but medium would be fine.

It’s only been about 7 months! Fish look nice and healthy. Probably smart to wait until after the move to start adding coral. Good luck!Been a while and I figured an update was due. So the reef tank turned into a FOWLR. Heard rumors shortly after last post that I might be moving summer of 2024, so I held off on adding coral. Why add more stuff that I'd have to move? Rumors were true and found out just before Thanksgiving that I'm moving back to Seattle area next summer. I've been scouring threads on how to move a tank; thankfully it's only a 29.
Fish are doing well--can't say enough great things about @Dr. Reef . I held the received fish in observation tank for 30 days and everyone ate well with no signs of any issues.
Got a Sicce ultra zero utility pump for Christmas and have to say it's awesome so far. I do about a 5-gal bucket water change a week (more if I happen to skip a week). Having that pump to move the water to the tank vice dumping it in is great. In the past, no matter how slowly I try to dump the water, sand gets stirred up and the tank looks like a snowstorm for a bit. Added another powerhead just before the holidays. I feed Reef Nutrition ROE and the nice thing about it is that you see the tank flow very well. Figured fish could use a little more exercise--they seem to like it and now the only dead spot in the tank seems to be back right.
Fish are doing great. Wife says the royal gramma is chunky, but he's fast and gets at least as much food as everyone else. Latest FTS attached--the second photo shows some gray stuff that has started growing/propagating in the bottom. I typically vacuum it up when I'm doing a water change. I'll get a better shot next time before cleaning. It's usually in a relatively small area (3-4"). No idea what it is. Also have started getting pink algae on glass and rock (bottom left of FTS), which I assumes is coralline although no idea how.
More to follow as I get closer to the move in Jul/Aug.
