Been 2 weeks since I add the first corals, all doing good so I decide to add another pack.
Most of them are new pieces I recently acquired so forgive me if the color are not dialed in! [emoji28]
Other corals are from my 45 gallons system, I don't need to tell, you will recognize them...by the color and sizes.

I haven't test for no3 on this tank yet. Last time I test for po4 on this tank, it was 0.01ppm (Hana Phosphorus checker)
I have no idea what are the numbers on the 45 Gallons! [emoji28]

Luckily the owner of the "store" let me cut whatever I want in this tank for free.[emoji39][emoji39][emoji39]

Looks like you diagnosed the problem correctly and well on the road to recovery. I was doing yard work yesterday and had suntan lotion on> I remembered your tank, so I made sure to wash up VERY well before working on my tank later in the day!

Looking good.
Putting those outer Radions in that position does not spill too much light?

It does spill a little over the area, but thankfully LED’s coverage isn’t too good so I am not much notice unless I look right into it.
t5s on the other hand very irritating, in my frag tank, because of the glares I cannot watch tv when the lights are on. I have to build a curtain! [emoji28]

FYI, you should get yourself those environment friendly sunscreen. I believe hey made of biodegradable ingredients and safe for the reef.

Hey I know this is the first post in the thread... What are those things called that you are using for extra support under your floor joists? Are they a stock item or did you have them made?

Thanks,

Adam

It's getting boring when my 45 gallons packed (and also do the other 2 frags tans).
Pick up a used 100 gallons SCA aquarium from my local reef buddy.
100 gallons is way less than my dream size tank. But I'm living in a manufacturer house and the floor can't handle bigger size so 100 gallons it is for now. [emoji30]

Equipment rundown:
Tank: SCA 100 gallons 48x24x20
Sump: AA 36x36x36
Skimmer : Bubble magus NAC9
Light: Radions G4 pro

I still haven't decided on the others yet.

First thing first, the floor need some reinforcement. Getting it done by my reef buddy.[emoji39]

Hi Adam, look google for “manufactured home jacks”. I bought them at a place called “D-mac” near my place. They are specify on manufactured home/mobile home parts.

In fact we did buy some environmentally friendly when we were snorkeling in Cozumel and it worked very well. No sunburn at all, and no guilty conscience either!

how did it save you? Does it turn something on when it gets that high or it notified you and you were able to do something?

Sorry for MIA for a while, it’s been a little set back in my system in the last two months.
So the story began around 2 months ago, one morning noticed my Rr Pink Floyd didn’t have good pe like normal. I knew for sure something wrong happening because it’s my “indicator corals” in the 100 gallons system.
(If you new with this term, I always pick one corals in my system that ALWAYS has good polyps extension to be the “indicator”. Everytime I walk by the tank, I have a habit of quickly look at that coral. Every systems has a different one. For example both of my systems have rr Pink Floyd, but only the Pink Floyd colony in this 100 gallons system always has CRAZY pe. On my 45 gallons system, the Asd doomsday colony was the one instead.)
Come back to the story, I did 20 gallons water change and change GAC (more than normal amount). It’s my procedure everytime something goes wrong (~everytime I notice my “indicators” coral doesn’t look happy).
The next day everything brown! And I meant everything! Fishes still look normal, active and eating. Water still crystal clear. Temp, alk normal.
Not even have the time to think what happens, I saved a cup of water for later ipc test and I did another 50 gallons water change.
The 3rd day some random frags started rtn. Horrified, I remove whatever can remove and transfer them to my other system. (It’s the new frag system with has been set up and running for...7 days). The other that encrusted to the rock and couldn’t remove I cut branches of them and move those to the frag tank with the hope I can save some. Did another water change. Still, I don’t know what wrong!
Think of some possibilities like something drop into the tank. I checked carefully, nothing.
ICP test come back with the results of everything normal. Only phosphate was high (0.3ppm, yes, not 0.03, but 0.3). I haven’t test for phosphate since...forever so I have no idea what number to compare. How high is high? So I run to my buddy house and...test his water! (His system is a copy version of mine, same filtration, same reefing philosophy) and he has...0.35ppm of phosphate! So the problematic didn’t come from phosphate.
Meanwhile the corals look worst and worst day by day. Getting super brown/dark and super skinny. I was stressed. Still, I couldn’t find out what wrong. The real problem is don’t know what’s cause the problem, isn’t it?

Only one possibility that I cannot eliminate:
Check out this picture
9803269bbaa409bcc8f6c1f454441cc3.jpg

He’s sunbathing like every day! And spraying sunblock like crazy! Spray 2 bottles at the same time! Meanwhile I have window open with fan turn on (to dehumidify). I was able to smell the fume standing inside my house!
A buddy of mine said I am paranoid! But it’s kind of make sense.
First, the corals went from colorful to super brown in 2 day —> something poisonous infected the tank.
ICP test confirms that no heavy metal or traces overdosed
Fishes showed no sign of distress mean if poisonous dropped into the tank, it’s a very little amount.
It’s suitable with my theory of sunblock’s spray. Because it’s only a little getting into the room and end up in the tank.
Let me know what you think?!

Almost 2 months later, the corals that I left in the 100 gallons getting healthier slowly everyday. And I haven’t lost anything!
Whenever the corals I moved into my new frag tank keep rtn one by one.
I don’t know because most the one I moved to the frag tank was frag (they were not encrusted) so they had smaller change of survival or moved them was my mistake (huge one) since the tank was new.
But here’s the casualties: (there’re a lot more I threw into the trash bin already!)
dda9cae298b38fec9883c83a74e86b95.jpg

It certainly sounds like the sunblock spray could be to blame. It's well known to be very toxic to corals...that's why it's being banned in places like Hawaii because of all the tourists swimming over the reefs.
It could have been something else though. Did you dip any of your corals to check for pests?

Yes, the apex text me and let me know the temp was too high. Because of the text I was able to discover my fan wasn’t working. The apex supposed to turn on Fan when it’s 81F, turn off skimmer, lights and text me when it’s 81.5F.

I didn’t dip them, but I don’t think it’s pest since everything went down hill in just 2 days and after several large water change and carbon everything going back o normal, so it has to be chemical.

Some of the corals grow and improve coloration noticeably since last pics were taken (2 weeks ago).

The neighbor, but his driveway is like 12 feet away my window at most, plus I had the window fan on at the time. Unfortunately talking to him is not an option, he always mad because of many people come in and out my house! [emoji28]

May have missed it but what exactly did you do to rectify the suntan lotion poison in your tank? Huge water changes? Carbon?

Yes. All I did was water change and change carbon every week (more than recommended). I also moved most of the corals to my new frag tank which turn out to be a mistake.

Some other frags
