I’ve enjoyed how the new light will have sun & moonlight features. I’d like to know more on how reef lights are made to keep our beautiful reefs alive!

#1 I haven't really participated in any discussions.
#2 what is really the best light cycle time wise. Sunrise to sunset?

DAILY QUESTION: What experiences have you had with moonlight cycles and their effects on nocturnal reef activity?
I suffer bad sleep whenever there is a bright full moon lighting up the night sky. I know these lunar (and solar) cycles control tides and stimulate reef critters life cycles including spawning.

Lighting acclimation seems like people have lots of varied results even using the same methods. I would love to know what is actually best for our corals. There seem to be lots of opinions but no certainty which one is actually best

DAILY QUESTION: What tips do you have for new aquarists about choosing the right reef lighting?
Get the best light they can afford.
Figure out what corals they want to eventually have and get the best light for those corals.

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your opinion on the role of lighting in creating a balanced aquarium ecosystem?
Corals require good water including good chemical parameters, temperature and natural circulation patterns to keep them happy and fed. After water, light coming into the system should be strong enough to support coral life and the illumination schedule should mimic natural conditions.

Providing natural planktonic foods rounds out the requirements for making a coral feel like it is at home in the ocean.

DAILY QUESTION: What's one topic of discussion in these daily questions you've enjoyed discussing or learning about? What's one thing you'd like to know more about with regard to reef lighting?
It's been interesting learning that coral use more than just what's in the visible light spectrum. I probably won't study more about it though because I have other things for my brain to do.

I've enjoyed learning about the effect of natural light cycle on corals. I'd like to know more about this from an experimental side--head to head comparisons of typical ramp up/ramp down schedule vs a natural light schedule. Well controlled of course.

DAILY QUESTION: Why is it essential to have a light that mimics natural sunlight and moonlight cycles?
Because my tank is in Oceanside California, inside my home where the natural lighting cycles don't match what is going on near the equator where coral grows and thrives as it has since it was invented.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance aesthetics and functionality when it comes to aquarium lighting?
I don't really. I am not an interior decorator that can handle these kinds of situations. I just get the lights and hang them where they need to be.
