DAILY QUESTION: What tips do you have for new aquarists about choosing the right reef lighting?
Don't skimp out on the cheapest lights. I've leaned this the hard way(I usually do). This is the life support for your new corals you are about to start collecting. Always check the reviews and do some searches here on Reef2reef!

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your opinion on the role of lighting in creating a balanced aquarium ecosystem?
The light is the source of food for all of the photosynthetic organisms in our reef tanks. If we don't have the light then they won't have life.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance light intensity and duration to achieve optimal results in your reef tank?
Honestly for MY tank, I went by the manufacturers suggestion and then tweaked it a little but based on comments in threads here at reef2reef.

DAILY QUESTION: Why is it essential to have a light that mimics natural sunlight and moonlight cycles?
So my corals will have the lighting of nature where they come from. To get them as close to the conditions of the ocean as possible so they will thrive!

DAILY QUESTION: What excites you most about the future of saltwater aquarium lighting? What is one innovative idea you hope will eventually become a reality for reef lighting?
Easy spectrum adjustment to dial in for the PERFECT color for growth and pop.

I'd love to see LEDs that are individually adjustable for specific spectrum/wavelengths.

DAILY QUESTION: What advantages do you see in the Natura iCon’s wide blue spectrum for coral fluorescence?
I believe the corals will really pop and I'll be able to see them under a new light(PUNNY). I love running blue lights but my current lighting doesn't put off enough par unless I crack up the white. I'm anxious to see how they floures under a nice light with a wide blue spectrum.

Efficiency and better even spread. Maybe not innovative but I hope to see longer than 1 year warranties on these big boy lights ;) If the little guys can offer 2-3 year warranties... so can the bigger companies. I think it would prove they have faith in the build quality of their product.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance the needs of different coral types when setting up your lighting schedule?
My lighting schedule has pretty much been a one time set it and forget it. I always move the corals where they need to be. I don't adjust the lighting.

OFFICIAL ENTRY: Having looked at the Natura iCon Reef LED Light, I'm absolutely blown away by the technical specifications and amazing capabilities this light appears to have! The reason I most hope to win this prize is due to the clear coral breeding applications a light that is perfectly sync'd with real solar/lunar cycles can have. I've been interested in coral breeding for a long time now, and have managed a slight bit of success getting some of my soft corals to produce eggs and offspring, but would love to try breeding more corals!

Bluetooth for when I'm at home and Wi-Fi for when I'm away. Sounds super nice and fancy. It will be awesome to be able to connect weekend I'm away or even on vacation if needed!

DAILY QUESTION: What excites you most about the future of saltwater aquarium lighting? What is one innovative idea you hope will eventually become a reality for reef lighting?
I'm excited to see went out will go with the nature mimicking automated lighting systems. Orphek seems to be the pioneers on this front. I honestly can't think of an innovative idea. Maybe some kind of solar powered light that is legit powered by the sun..

DAILY QUESTION: What excites you most about the future of saltwater aquarium lighting? What is one innovative idea you hope will eventually become a reality for reef lighting?
There's been a nice advancement in led lighting in the past couple of years. I felt it got a little stagnant for a while. The biggest hope I have for thr future of led lighting is a true uv spectrum like metal halide.

Hopefully lighting will continue to get better spectrum, more PUR and lower prices. No idea about any ideas...
