This is a really good question. If algae take over a well established reef I would not act on the light but I would try to identify other causes. For example I could increase filtration or act on nutrients or even add a team of herbivores. If I could act only on the light, I would increase oxidation by increasing the white channel to eliminate the nutrients that the algae feed on while trying at the same time not to let my corals lack food to grow strong healthy and colorful.
