Coris and Halichoeres are not closely related. Coris are known for their distinct and highly vibrant colors between different life stages. Their medium to large size and the flat bodies they develop. Coris live in deeper reefs.
Halichoeres have less variation between life stages and a more torpedo shape. Also are generally small and live in rubble fields and shallow reefs.
Halichoeres also means “salt pig” while Coris means “maiden”.

High nitrates can cause tissue recession and brittle skeleton. I would increase frequency and amount of water changes, shoot for phosphates of .05-.1 and nitrates of 10-15. That being said my tank has been running nitrates at 25 and phosphates at .25. Yes the flesh bands are small but those torches are far from gone. I was given a torch from a local reefer because it was on its way out, zero flesh band and that was a year and three months ago. If you look at my DT picture it’s the one on the left.

It's just been cool and dry here. Today was the first day we've had rain in a long time. Tomorrow is some mild storms. Nothing like yall have to deal with. Please, everyone stay safe!
