Ugh that is a serious heartbreaker. Really sorry to hear it. How are the survivors faring?
Not good, the STN is spreading like wildfire right now and I'm probably looking at a loss of 80 - 90% of my SPS. Ordered an ICP test to see if I have some sort of heavy metal poisoning happening as all my other parameters are fine. Temp has been back to stable for more than 2 weeks now but I can't seem to stop the death.

None of the LPS or other corals are suffering so I'm kind of stuck waiting this out.

Did you do a large water change yet?

Ugh, looks like I am also out he frag in background. While not a major tank disaster, my frag got dislodged and fell directly onto a hammer. I might be able to salvage the base but that will be it.

However, the BC Cabanacide in the foreground is something special.

Sorry man. That cabanacide is a beauty. Im fortunate enough to have one to and love it.
Yeah, it’s a bummer but totally my fault on the Houdini, I’d been taking it of then rock for monthly photos and didn’t get it secured properly. Might have to pick another up in my next order.

Also loving the cabanacide, picked that one and the Nightmare on elm st speciosa which is also looking good.

Somehow I'm still in this contest.
Here's my August entry
IMG_20240818_142237835_HDR.jpg

So, like a dummy, I trusted a non Hanna tester for nitrate, and it kept saying I was low, and scared of bottoming out I started dosing nitrate. Only to get a Hanna and see it was 138ppm. (I had to dilute the sample by 50% to even get a reading). I'm still bringing it down.

Then after testing today I see my AFR was out. So here we are.

Nitrates - 88.2
Phos - 0.14
Alk - 8.2
Calcium - 410
Mag - 1200

Moral of the story, don't dose anything you can't test for, RELIABLY. I trusted an aquaForest brand test. It was not even close to being accurate. The day I got my Hanna HR, the aquaForest said 2.5 ppm. Hanna tested 138ppm after dilution and math.

I did lose all but the Houdini and one other from my last box but no other corals have been affected.

That sucks, I thought nitrate kits were pretty reliable. If you don't mind me asking how are you bringing em back down?

Yeah that was my understanding as well. I was previously using salifert and thought I'd give aquaForest a try. I'm using Hanna for alk, phosphate and now nitrate, and salifert for calcium and magnesium.

So my tank is 75g, I've been doing a 10% w/c every day, plus adding 2.5ml vodka, for carbon dosing, after the w/c. Also removed all sponges I had incase they were leaching extra nitrates, added a big bag of carbon. Also praying to the reef gods, and doing nitrate lowering dances, lol.

Thanks, the reason I ask is my plans for this tank was biannual icp with simply keeping an eye on alk monthly. In 25 years I've never owned a nitrate kit but with icp out I went ahead and ordered some saliferts just in case. Anyways.. my first two icps came back between 20 & 30 and this saifert is screaming 50ish. My plan was to start this nopox stuff but you have me a little nervous. I've never been scared of nitrate and phosphate but if this thing is off by 20 nopox could spell disaster.
