I recently purchased two Yuma's and they are not looking to good. The first one is a pink yuma that seems to be slowly detaching off the rock it came on. The second is a multicolor yuma that is producing a clear slime underneath it and the center is starting to droop. The pink one that is coming off the rock I moved it so the flow doesn't push it off anymore, but it just doesn't seem to be helping. I gave the multicolor yuma an Iodine dip last night, but it still seems to be producing a clear slime, I have also been sucking up some of the slime with a turkey baster being very careful not to touch the yuma. I have other yuma's in my tank for awhile never had any problems. I really would hate to lose these if anyone has any info to help that would be great.

Doesn't sound good Brian....I have been threw many pinks and multicolored yumas that do this for some reason. I have tried many dips of various chemicals and nothing seems to work or save them. Yumas seem to be very problematic with this issue, there is a new dip product called Melafix marine that is for fish and corals that are showing infection. This is the only stuff I haven't tried yet might want to find some and try it, but if you do be quick about it cause these yumas will melt at a very high rate( within days). Does the pink yuma have ministerial filaments coming out of the bottom of it? If so you will have to work quick as all the pinks I have had described like yours will eventually go by the way of your multicoloured......The situation you describe is dire unfortunate.....Did you photo-acclimate your yumas?

I think i may have some melafix somewhere, maybe i'll try that. The pink one doesn't have anything coming off the bottom, it looks pretty clean. Not sure what you mean by photo acclimate, but I put them in mid-day so I shut my MH off and left my actinics on for a couple of hours then the lights were off for the night. They are both on the bottom farthest from the light. Thanks for the help Azurel :)

My friend had a few pink ones for yrs was very large in size didnt change anything and it just pulled itself off the rock and died within weeks

No problem......What I mean by photoacclimate is in most cases the yuma is going from suspect LFS or on-line lighting, shipping in complete darkness to your tank. I always start yumas in low light with med flow. I wait and let it settle for a few weeks, if it needs more light it will stretch to get more light then you can slowly move it out a little farther. If it does not stretch for light and settles and stays colored up then you know it is fine where it is at. The ones I had issues with were either not photoacclimated, or moved out into direct light to fast that they couldn't handle the increase in intensity which lead to a bacterial infection.

I have dealt with this so often in the past that I can tell just by looking at a yuma on a site or the LFS. There are tell tale signs to ones that are having issues, but also healthy ones which can for some reason out of the blue just collapse and melt. The Melafix has to be "Melafix Marine". It will say it right on the package it is not the normal Melafix for marine aquariums.
