Oddly, despite being listed as a 'beginner' coral, I've never had luck with favias, favites or platygyra... plenty of other corals have done well, but those three never seem to even come close to thriving.
Before the filefish was evil, did you feed them directly, or just let them be?
Agreed, I grabbed one $5 so far, and almost hit "pay now" on my second but backed out to wait for one I really like. Plenty of time leftYep, you just have to be REALLY quick on the draw with the $5 corals. They become easier to snag the deeper into the sale you go, the 2-frag limit helps.

Mine have had reasonable amounts of success. I also have a christmas favia, but it is not preforming as well as these two have been.

the honey badger of coralI think my war coral is the only one that's going to make it from the file fish fiasco. They seem incredibly hardy. It's the only one that has grown any new tissue since removing the file fish anyways.
