I am trying to get an ID on which one and how to go about it.
I’ve never seen a parasite that long coming from a fish’s gill like that. Can you see where the end is attached? Nematodes are the only parasite that gets that long, but they don’t hang free like that. Copepods can develop long trailing egg sacs, but I’ve not seen that not this long.

Are you certain it isn’t a bit of bleached out algae or a bit of filter floss?
How long has it been on the fish?
Did it show up at this size or did it grow over time?

It looked to make a full loop, with both ends going into the gills. I don't have copepods, and no stringy algae, tank is actually almost algae free as it's on week 4 of hypo. I also do not use filter floss, so that cannot be it.

It randomly just showed up yesterday, at the pictured size, and is gone by this morning. Could it be some kind of mucus?

Could be, but mucus is generally easy to ID because it looks slimy.
