I have one snail. That's all. That's all I can keep. That's all I have ever had since 2008. I put them in and they die. I keep Sps lps no problem. What could be the problem? Oh and I only have one dwarf hermit so it's not them.

What type of snails are you getting? Some snails like astrea snails are not able to right themselves if they land on there back. Margarita snails are not able to handle higher temps according to LA ideal temp range is 72 to 78. Also when adding snails to your tank do you do anything to acclimate them and if so what?

What kind of fish do you have, some are snail eaters like triggerfish, some wrasses and other types even. Also, the lone hermit might not take them all out, but he could aid in some of their demise! But also as mentioned above, certain types cannot right themselves if they flip over (or fall off the rocks/glass) which will eventually lead to their death or make them an easy meal for your crab.

I drip acclimate like I would a fish. I have two clown fish. Thats all. They are super mean but they seem to leave the snails alone.

When you find the empty shells, are they scattered around or in a certain spot? There are some round worms and flatworms that like to eat mollusks, including snails.

They seem to be all around. But I hadn't thought about the worms.

This is what I always thought. But I have friends that have clean tanks and they keep snails. That's what made me ask the question.

Just found this in my tank, a mollusk eating flatworm. Next to it is the snail I watched it kill.
