Hi everyone, I recently picked up this gem tang a couple days ago. It eats and seems to be acting normal. I just noticed today that he has some type of white thing sticking out from his belly. Can anyone identify what it can be? It started appearing after I soaked his food with API general cure and Seachem focus, because I noticed he was pooping out white stool.
-Thanks

One of two things,. Either flatworm which i'm ruling out or likely a skin tag from a scrape or injury. To best determine, need side shot of fish under white light intensity

I was able to get him in a specimen container for a better picture. It kind of looks like a tear at the bottom? Also I’m still not sure what the white long thing is.

This may be rectal prolapse or structure from food it ate. You can try Ruby Rally Pro safely in tank, but my better confidence is Seachem neoplex to prevent infection and promote healing. If eating, and if something it ate, feed it brine shrimp which acts as a laxative for the fish and will help with digestion.

I moved him into a QT tank for now, so I’ll continue to monitor him. I’ll try the seachem neoplex and brine shrimp . Thank you for the quick response.

Can you tell if this is coming out of its anus, or out of the side of its belly?

I’ve never seen anything like this except in cases where there was a rigid item in a fish’s food that then punctured the body wall - but you said this is soft, so I’d rule that out.

Not pertinent to the issue but NEVER mix General Cure with Focus and feed it internally. It isn’t designed for that, and the two drugs (prazi and metro) have two different oral doses. Additionally, even if you used the two drugs separately, unless you weigh out the drugs on a gram scale, you won’t be able to get the dose correct.

From what I can see it kind of looks like it’s either coming out from the anus or it’s slightly in front of the anus.

Since you have it confined - I might consider removing it - however - I would defer to @Jay Hemdal

Image 6291 shows something climbing on its side between the white spot and pectoral fin. It looks like a mite, or something.

I see it at anus and would not recommend pulling if there is a sharp or hook typr of surface. Brine shrimp should help it pass as mentioned earlier.

I saw that also, but I couldn't tell if that was on the fish, or just a scratch on the holding tank. There are not any fish parasites I've ever heard of that have long legs though.....

Well, I'm still stumped. Can you update us on its condition this morning?
