White tail tang owners, how aggressive are they?

I have a whitetail in a 75g. He definitely runs the tank. Never really bothered anyone until I added a One Spot Foxface. He tried to harass the Foxface - that lasted about a day or so, Foxface flashed his dorsal and that ended that. Now they are buds, they graze together.

That said, I introduced a Tuxedo Urchin a few months ago to deal with GHA. GHA is now gone, as is most other algae on rocks, very little coralline left. Since then, I think he’s been a bit more aggressive with less algae on the rocks - especially to my solar wrasse. Solar used to be very social, now he’s skittish, hides more and saw his tail was nipped at a bit. Tang would chase him a bit. I’ve upped how often I put Nori in hoping that will curb things. It seems to have helped, the solar’s tail looks good again - but, he’s still skittish.

Another poster mentioned how whitetail’s don’t like sand gobies - I can attest to that. I went thru 2 diamond gobies thanks to my whitetail.

I’m at a point where I’m a bit scared to add anymore fish due to the tang. Been thinking about a Mandarin - though the captive breds at the LFS are tiny, only an inch and a half or so. Any thoughts on adding a small mandarin?

I have a white tail and chocolate tang in the same tank. The white tail was already established when the chocolate came into the picture. The white tail was mad for about 3-4 days. Never really nipped just postulating. After that the chocolate stopped hiding and started swimming around more and now they’re buds. Lovely fish.

No major aggression from my Whitetail. He basically does fly by algae munching all day long. He will get upset if fish move in on his rock cave though. He owns most of the inner rockwork except one cave reserved for the yellow tang. The gem tang handles the perimeter.
