What could be happening to these Rasta Zoas they have been ballooning and with very strange behavior after being only 14 days directly high on the tank under the AI PRIME HD.

  1. They bubble up
  2. Their ring colors fuse
  3. It happens in the afternoon when sunset lights are high on RED
Please help, this is a very odd reaction hard to figure out.

Thank you TEAM!

Daniel

I would lower them to the sanded. What you're seeing is called zoanthid umbrella syndrom and it's usually caused by drastic light changes or water chemistry changes.

this is the 3rd instance this week. so im guessing its pretty normal?
It can be. Some zoas will show color change in the polyp while others can umbrella. From what I noticed in our tank anyway. Our hornets would loose the circle in the middle of the zoa and our utter chaos would almost turn solid and loose speckling while the rastas would produce the dome shape with too much light.

I have moved them to a darker side and bottom part of the tank and they seem to still be under the shock and just frozen in that bubble behavior some have closed but they all seem to be stuck in a moment.

I moved it to the bottom of the tank and it has been recuperating slowly but surely, thank you for the knowledgeful advice.

I know this was years ago, but I just moved some of my zoas from mid tank to the bottom and am having this issue. How did yours end up?
