I originally thought this was being caused by running carbon continuously from what I was reading but at this point I think it must be something else. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on what’s going wrong with this fish?

It’s HLLE which causes pits and flesh missing mainly in tangs, angels and some rabbitfish. It is often caused by poor water quality, high use of carbon, poor water quality (elevated nitrate and ammonia) and inadequate/poor diet. It is not life threating in any way but offers secondary infection in some cases.
Maintaining GOOD water quality and diet are often the fixes and with severe cases, some healing.
Some foods to feed tang are :
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
mysis shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally. HOW

That sort of fin erosion is how Zebrasoma tangs show HLLE. Past carbon use is a common cause, but removing the carbon doesn’t cure the issue.

I’m running carbon constantly because I use ozone. Is there anything I can do to help this poor fish out other than removing the ozone?

Why are you running carbon with ozone? It’s much better to dose the ozone through a foam fractionator with an ORP controller and just run it at a lower level.

So - that’s a high dose ozone reactor, you need the carbon to reduce the ozone oxidants.
I run ozone like public aquariums do - low dose, long contact time, adjusted by an ORP controller.

There are benefits and drawbacks of both methods, but the high dose creates different ozone oxidants that are more persistent. If the carbon gets exhausted, those are released into the tank. The low dose method requires a calibrated ORP probe, but if it gets out of calibration, only a small amount of oxidants will get into the tank.
