Not sure…I’ve never bought it except for the small frag rocks.isn't the stuff on liferock just plaster?
Not disputing the painted bacteria part. Of course my rock might not be as diverse as a rock that’s been in the ocean for a decade (it’s only about 18 months old) but I can put my rock in a small tank of freshly mixed saltwater and stock it with fish without any Ill effect to the fish and without having to go through new tank syndrome. Unless I’m missing something, that to me qualifies as live rock.It might be “Alive” after a certain amount of time but still nowhere near the same as real LR that has sat in the ocean for a decade. They say they paint bacteria on the dry rock to help it get a jump start but everything has bacteria on it. Bacteria doesn’t make it LR.
Or just get Gulf LR, a lot closer and has never been driedhttps://uniquecorals.com/products/aussie-live-rock pricey, but a couple of pounds will help you seed your rock if it is dry"

Not all was man made. They use Florida quarried rock to drop in their farming areas. A lot of Gulf Live Rock has been there since the 90’s.yes cheaper, but i believe they are man made, i just prefer real" ocean rock porous" , i do have some tampa bay rocks too , they are GREAT , plenty of life i got them during covid, which at the time probably was seeded longer, due to the scare of going out
Just sent them by a message asking a few questions. $125 for 5lbs! I asked them how many pieces it would be, if it would be exactly 5lbs, & if they shipped in water. We shall see.zhttps://uniquecorals.com/products/aussie-live-rock pricey, but a couple of pounds will help you seed your rock if it is dry"
I’m actually so annoyed!! Can’t believe I fell for that. Where can I get actual live rock from in the UK?Dry rock can't be live... since it is... dry
Unfortunately many places call everything "live rock" and the painted rock some places sell they call "liFe rock" - very confusing.
Over time it will become live. Bacteria will colonize in a few weeks and higher organisms over years.
Thank you! Do they ship to the uk?Just sent them by a message asking a few questions. $125 for 5lbs! I asked them how many pieces it would be, if it would be exactly 5lbs, & if they shipped in water. We shall see.z
I honestly wont get so bummed about it. I would just leave the tank do its thing. live rock is not a must for success, sometimes it could be more harm than good for example; aside from all the beneficial critters, you could introduce an unwanted pest. Keep it simple, and as mentioned earlier the bacteria will colonize quickly in a matter of a few weeks.I’m actually so annoyed!! Can’t believe I fell for that. I sawhttps://www.reef2reef.com/threads/australian-live-rock.895779/page-2#post-9964614 some threads up about it in case your wondering what looks like x pounds
you would probably have to search for UK vendors. I’m not sure the availability in the UK. If you can get it it’s probably from Australia or other reefs south of you. Hope you come across some amazing LR! Post pics if you do….Thank you! Do they ship to the uk?
The silver lining in this is that we learn to tread a lil more cautiously in this hobby and that second opinions are worth their weight in gold. This forum is a plethora of trial and error and success and failure. Like mentioned above, you can wait it out and let your rock build the beneficial bacteria n such. The process is long and daunting but I certainly learned a lot about the process going the hard (slow) route and reading through a bunch of threads. You got this. Just a Lil bump in the road. I personally didn’t go the live rock route because I was afraid of investing money on live rock just to booger it up.I’m actually so annoyed!! Can’t believe I fell for that.
