It might be “Alive” after a certain amount of time but still nowhere near the same as real LR that has sat in the ocean for a decade. They say they paint bacteria on the dry rock to help it get a jump start but everything has bacteria on it. Bacteria doesn’t make it LR.
Not disputing the painted bacteria part. Of course my rock might not be as diverse as a rock that’s been in the ocean for a decade (it’s only about 18 months old) but I can put my rock in a small tank of freshly mixed saltwater and stock it with fish without any Ill effect to the fish and without having to go through new tank syndrome. Unless I’m missing something, that to me qualifies as live rock.

Not all was man made. They use Florida quarried rock to drop in their farming areas. A lot of Gulf Live Rock has been there since the 90’s.

Dry rock can't be live... since it is... dry :(

Unfortunately many places call everything "live rock" and the painted rock some places sell they call "liFe rock" - very confusing.

Over time it will become live. Bacteria will colonize in a few weeks and higher organisms over years.
I’m actually so annoyed!! Can’t believe I fell for that. Where can I get actual live rock from in the UK?

Just sent them by a message asking a few questions. $125 for 5lbs! I asked them how many pieces it would be, if it would be exactly 5lbs, & if they shipped in water. We shall see.z
Thank you! Do they ship to the uk?

I honestly wont get so bummed about it. I would just leave the tank do its thing. live rock is not a must for success, sometimes it could be more harm than good for example; aside from all the beneficial critters, you could introduce an unwanted pest. Keep it simple, and as mentioned earlier the bacteria will colonize quickly in a matter of a few weeks.

The silver lining in this is that we learn to tread a lil more cautiously in this hobby and that second opinions are worth their weight in gold. This forum is a plethora of trial and error and success and failure. Like mentioned above, you can wait it out and let your rock build the beneficial bacteria n such. The process is long and daunting but I certainly learned a lot about the process going the hard (slow) route and reading through a bunch of threads. You got this. Just a Lil bump in the road. I personally didn’t go the live rock route because I was afraid of investing money on live rock just to booger it up.
