Can you post a picture of the new tank you ordered? Unless I missed something you've never shown the actual new 83 gallon tank built. Any updates on how that tank is working out?

Still love that moon coral most! Exospheres #2, and they look like they're growing great!
I had no idea until last night that the moon coral has sweepers like that!

I’ve seen them once in a while. It’s not a daily or even weekly thing. Maybe every month or so…and they are normally more like feeding tentacles. Around .25-.5”

But not last night lol

And only one polyp out of the whole colony was doing it !

The gold hammer?

It’s 9” across and has killed multiple corals overnight on me so it is banished to its own shelf in the upper right corner hopefully far enough away from anything else lol it still tries to reach things

It’s been leak tested and emptied

Got other things that had to take priority but I will have to set it up soon because I’m running out of space

Going to try and skip cycle
I just added a bunch of live rock to my existing tanks sump, a big media bag of matrix, and some ceramic biomedia sticks

Basically trying to let all this stuff seed and get established so I can transfer a ton of bacteria at once to minimize and hopefully avoid a cycle entirely

I was referring to the moon coral and the moon coral overlord commanding polyp 28 to destroy its neighbor.
I had one years ago that decided it didnt like how close some zoas got and went nuclear on them.

I wasn’t warned about this when I got it!

I don’t think I’d even heard of a fluted moon coral. I bought it because it looked interesting like a cool favia

# no regrets

Mine look a lot like that but maybe a little different in color. Very aggressive. 6-8" sweepers seemed like once it toasted the zoas and realized its power they were out nightly.

I just started running a santa monica drop 1.2x in my 12 gallon tank. My PO4 is now around 0.9 if not higher.
you don't have problems with chemicals coming from your hair algae impeding your coral growth do you?

Never. I’ve been using a surf 2 scrubber on my 75g for my primary filtration for 10 years

And I run a Slip.7 on my Waterbox.

Look at my pics. You’ll see no issues with coral growth :)

Phosphate may rise at first. There scrubbers suck phosphate out of the rocks and sand.

Do you run any carbon to suck up the chemicals? I got a small bag of hair algae from my LFS, the water was quite green. So I also wondered if your tank water looked green as well?
After seeing the green water from the alage, it made me think about chemical warfare from algae inhibiting coral growth.

Thanks!

The scrubber will not make your water green. This isn’t hair algae it’s turf algae. Hair algae may grow in the scrubber at first. It should be removed. The turf algae will take over soon. There is no chemical warfare form the scrubber

my water is crystal clear. I don’t run filter socks, floss, fleece roller, or any mechanical filtration. In 10 years I’ve done about 3 water changes, 5g each time, for a 75g tank.

I use a chemipure elite pouch in the sump, I don’t think it really does much, but I have always used them and buy them in bulk and think it’s good to have due to the diversity of coral in my tank
