I have two tanks ( soon to be one large one, yay me…) chasing the trace element dragon. ButI am doing each differently. I’ve been doing MS on one for about 4 months. I stopped water changes on this tank for about 3 months. I didn’t notice any difference. I started doing weekly water changes and dosing MS, and the tank appears happier. The second tank does AWC (25% a week) and I dose 2 ML of A&K to a 65g system daily. I’ve been doing this for 2 months. Huge positive impacts in this tank. PE is over the top and nearly all the coral have white growth tips. A month into the 65g I also changed (been slowly changing) my lighting to full spectrum then blue, I also changed out 2 of my T5 bulbs and white bulbs in. Tank is really liking this. I also feed this tank very heavy.

With water changes, you can just do them and not worry about over dosing or testing. Not only does this save money on testing and elements, it also is easier on the mind... mine at least. OES is $45 or MS at $55 - I can do 200 gallon water change for about $30-32, that is 300 gallons of new water.

I have never once believed that I was replenishing everything up to some certain level, but I am replenishing.

I will freely admit that I trust Aquarium Pharm and their IO salt more than I trust an ICP test anyway, nor a supplement made by somebody else that I have no idea of the compound or purity. I also have not ever found use for most elements that people swear about anyway and I only dose iron and the range is so large that you really cannot overdose it if you can do maths.
How often do you do the water changes to remove nitrate and replenishing purposes and what percentage… what’s your bioload?

If jda comes on he will certainly answer for himself, but he does not do water changes for the purpose of reducing nutrients and he has low levels of nitrate. He simply has as much consumption as addition of N.
