I have heard this is common, but I thought I would share anyway. My Royal Gramma likes to swim upside down when he is near one of his hiding places - up in the rock work at the top of a cave. Fun to watch. At first I thought he was disoriented, but this only seems to occur when he is near his hide out.

I also saw him with a strand of something in his mouth one day. He took it to his hideout and came out without it - almost like a bird making a nest!! So weird, but fun to watch.

Cool video. Mine is also a pretty acrobatic and entertaining fish. None of the shyness I hear others talk about. If I add anything to the tank, it has to thoroughly investigate it which consists of swimming upside down, sideways and backward all around it for half the day. The gramma’s tank mates are all peaceful gobies and a fire fish so it’s top dog in the tank. If it starts bluffing at the fire fish too often, I move my gorgonian off it’s perch and down to the sand bed and the gramma acts like it’s in a new tank and obsessively checks out the gorgonian for a day, then spends a few weeks inventorying the tank like it’s making sure I haven’t stolen something but completely ignores the fire fish. Lol

Nice. Always interesting to understand different fish behaviors. When I got my first clown, the male looked like he was riding a bucking bronco - which now I know is common behavior.

Here is a clip of the RG fending off Firefish from a hide-out. Is that mouth movement at the end what you re referring to as “bluffing”?

My RG used to "bluff" my fire fish a lot lol, now after a month or so it doesn't do it much anymore.
