I witnessed this kind of weird dramatic behavior in mine as well at the beginning. Almost acting dead the first few days in QT. Happened also in the tank after I re-aquascaped it one time.
It freaked me out the first day but it has been doing amazing ever since. It comes out and eats during the day and at night it hides in its little hole it made under the sand and rocks. Thankfully it got better. Assuming it was just super stressed from my clowns chasing it right out of the bag and also because it was put into a new home.

Glad for the success so far. Your clowns are bullies... You just don't see it. Fortunately for you, Royal Grammas can also be jerks. He stands a chance.
Oh no… My royal gramma does swim around with my clowns during the day. Is there anything I should do to prevent anything happening to it?

The only thing you can really do is make sure there are enough hiding spots. Clowns can be fine forever, or for awhile, and then turn into very aggressive fish, or not.
