UPS has a 100% failure rate on overnight shipping for me, am I the only one?

Ordered coral from two different vendors last week to ship out this week, one shipped Monday, delayed do to storms in Kentucky. Luckily I was able to pick it up from the hub after 3 hours on the phone with customer service.
Had another box ship Tuesday from cali as well. Woke up this morning and it’s still in San Diego “due to uncontrollable events” how are they this bad? I don’t think I will ever have corals shipped again. Do I just have bad luck or is this just how it is now?

Their last fail for me was because of storms in Kentucky too. What is it with Kentucky? lol

But it hasn't been 100% failure. Maybe 25% at this point.

The first shipment was because of weather in Kentucky, the second one just says “uncontrollable events” so no idea haha.

Summer is not a good time to buy livestock.

Definitely not defending UPS by any means but in all fairness that storm was forecast to March across the country Sunday night. No one had any business trying to ship anything until today. All those Kentucky delays shoud fall on the vendor.

But the weather is "controllable" :thinking-face:
So far I only remember one being delayed over night. Some have come later in the evening when they normally come before noon. I don't by a lot of livestock online these day because the shipping is too unreliable. It's too bad because online is the only source some people have for stuff they really want.

Just wait for Black Friday and Xmas sales and how the mail carriers will be overloaded and weather will bad… and all the posts that show up of delayed delivery and dead things…
USPS has become a joke even not at the holidays. Packages just ping pong back and forth between the same depots at least twice before they move on to my local office.

Only used UPS overnight thrice so far, but came on time all 3 times.

I get that but at the same time why would UPS accept overnight packages if they know there is a good chance they would be delayed. I would have gladly changed the ship out date had the vendor offered or suggested it ‍♂️

I had a ups order ship this Monday for Tuesday delivery. Monday night they emailed me there would be a 24 hour delay due to Kentucky weather and it would arrive Wednesday. Turns out they still delivered on Tuesday as expected

90-95% of the coral and fish in my tank are shipped via ups. I wouldn’t hesitate to have items shipped. In fact I have 14 corals coming via 2 ups packages in the near future.

I try to minimize risk by planning around upcoming weather. I dont have orders shipped on Thursday’s. And Monday’s are risky also

Shipments going out Tuesday and Wednesday tend to be least likely for issues

Because the reward far outweighs the risk. UPS is gonna get theirs period which is why I would think vendors would take a little extra time to watch the weather. How can a company get away with not taking responsibility for weather delays only to ship a package with a storm tearing across the country? Morons..

Probably ASD right?

Update:
Box is still sitting at the UPS facility in San Diego as of 2:53pm central. UPS Customer service is saying I will get the box tomorrow but I’m really doubting that at this point. I changed the delivery instructions to hold at UPS hub so I can get it quicker.

It depends on where you are. For example, an overnight shipment from San Diego to DFW would not be an issue, as there are multiple flights overnight between San Diego and DFW. Have you received an email notification with a time window for delivery?

No update to deliver time on the tracker. Just going off what customer service rep told me. You would think the box would ship straight to DFW but it goes to Kentucky first. That seems to be the issue here as Kentucky is getting a lot of bad weather.

First, I am a UPS driver. We do screw up but everything is not in our control.
Ramp and tarmac employees are not allowed to be outside for 30 minutes after a lightning strike with 10 miles. The timer is reset with each successive strike so one errant strike at 29 minutes become a 59 minute ground stop. This is OSHA and FAS regulation.
Close to slightly over 200 flights have land and take off in four window. I believe that there is 3-4 different runway configurations for wind. Air Traffic control can limit or close all flights.
Most flights follow the time zone jumps going out. A flight may go from Kansas City to Denver to Los Angeles. So weather at any of those previous airports may cause delay. Even worse is flights less than an hour need permission to land before even taken off.

I know this tldr; but imagine trying to make 3-4 connections in 5-6 hours across the country for your trip. Pretty impressive when it works but a complete disaster when it fails.

Well something is up with that Kentucky terminal as I’m told they have to add heat packs in July because Louisville gets cold in June

BTW be glad there is a UPS, with USPS my “Priority” shipment from Fl to SC takes 5 friggin days !!!!
