Upgrade tank move questions

I'm upgrading the biocube to a 45 with sump. I have decided against reusing the sand (after a lot of reading seams safer to use new). I have about 4 corals in the tank that can be rehomed into my 75. If I get some of the "live sand" in a bag and reuse my rock and water do you think it would be possible to avoid a ammonia spike. I can't put the fish in my big tank (clowns wouldn't get along, and neither would the Blenny). Will 20-30 lbs of live rock be enough bio filter? Any tips or tricks?

You probably won't. You can also run some amoniasorb or other media to absorb any you may get. When I started my tank from scratch and I was never able to detect ammonia. I did dose ammonia into the tank to make sure it was ready though. That's my tank though

You should be fine. I always add a bottle of bacteria when moving a system, better safe than sorry. I would use your old sand. If you're worried about it being "dirty" just rinse it; cheaper than buying new live sand.

Yea and if you need some, I can bring a extra bottle of Bact with me to the club meet. It's good stuff I dose it from time to time just to keep my Bact levels healthy

I am going to need more sand for this tank and was thinking about going with the black sand that I have in my frag tank. I have used a couple different products as far as bottled bacteria and liked them both. I have prime too. I am just nervous about my fish.

how deep is your sand bed? If its only 1 or two inches then I wouldn't worry to much

Its 1.5"-2". The new tank dimensions are 24"x24"x18" . Its .5" sides and .75" bottom so I guess it will actually hold 39.5" (Not counting the gap at the top of the tank). I am curious as to whether or not my AI prime will be enough to light this thing. It currently keeps 3 buble tip anemone alive and happy. I guess if I place anything that needs a lot of light up high and in the middle I should be alright. I'm going to need a new skimmer, or a good used one....
