Check out my build thread. LiFePO4 is the way to go. I just lost power for two days and this system kicks butt.to start i live in an area that rarely ever gets power outages so i didn’t think id need a battery backup of sorts
however a car crashed this morning around 3am in my neighborhood and took out the power to around 500 places including mine and it’s currently 11:27 as i’m writing this
as of now i’ve got no way to tell what’s gone but a couple corals look very unwell
could be lack of oxygen which i’ve been trying to supplement by hand but more than likely loss of heat
with all that being said, what battery backups do you guys have and what measures do you take to prevent this

The fire extinguisher makes my wife feel better. But these batteries aren’t flammable.Check out my build thread. LiFePO4 is the way to go. I just lost power for two days and this system kicks butt.
Lack of oxygen is the killer. I have some of those bubblers, got me thru 34 hour hour power failure with no casualties. Tanks got down to 62 deg f, all survived, sps, gonis, fish, snails.to start i live in an area that rarely ever gets power outages so i didn’t think id need a battery backup of sorts

non flammable batteries???The fire extinguisher makes my wife feel better. But these batteries aren’t flammable.
They have ability to explode in extreme situationsnon flammable batteries???
i definitely gotta look into that
i’ve already got LiPo batteries for Rc cars i keep stored in fire proof bags, the less chance of electrical fire the better

i’m pretty sure i have the 200w heater but i’d have to check
@shcrimps You’re talking about something different. And, I’m an old 10th and 12th scale carpet guy and 10th gas TC. These are Lithium Iron Phosphate. Check them out.Ok so 16w. If you look at post 16, my return pump also consumes 16 watt and the cell powa 600 will last 36 hours.
This is the $300 version and then $420 version (cell powa 1000) is double lifespan/capacity
If pumps are dc, the ups will be supplying the dc power supply. Is it important for that to be sine wave?If you have a DC return pump (or other power adjustable equipment), and invest in a UPS, you'll probably want a true/pure sine wave UPS. They are a bit more expensive, but much less likely to work properly with your equipment.
I have this:
It held my return pump (small, it's a nano) and 100w heater (barely needed though) for over 2 hours during an outage the other night.
Sorry for your situation.

Id think ac pumps would be happier with sine, but why dc?

This is good but I don’t believe it has ups functionality. Still a good choice if you are home and able to manually cutoverSorry for your struggles. These devices work well also for emergency use.
Hi there. I am not exactly versed on the subject, but it's something I have brought over to reefing with me from a previous life with audio equipment. Since I don't think I can adequately answer your question, you might want to check out this old post from a wiser reefer:
DIY Universal Battery Backup For Your Reef
A few days ago (3/2/2018) I lost power in the recent Nor'easter. I had a battery backup system in place, and thankfully it functioned fairly well. However, I had upgraded my aquarium since I had originally planned out the battery backup and the...www.reef2reef.com
Seemed really fast to me, as well. Maybe they're just ***** and hiding. We lose power all the time and I don't have problems like this. ***** pouty corals, yes, but they get over it. I'm so sorry this is happening for you. Also, are you sure they’re not just super retracted? It seems rather fast for the hammers to die.
