I am planning to keep my 40 gallon as a bare bottom tank! Anyone on here have a bare bottom? Would love to see your tank and set up. Also.. this would be my first tank with corals, any advice is appreciated.

Hurricanes aka Miami Hurricanes.... bright green tentacles with bright orange center? I want some!

Where did you fine 'em?

Over the last few months TSA has had a handful of frags of the “TSA Hurricane Zoas” that would pop up every once in a while. Never a ton, usually just a couple frags here and there.

Here’s a pic I snapped last night of them to keep tabs on their growth (started with 2 small polyps). They were just eating, so some polyps look closed. Kinda small polyps on these, especially when compared to the utter chaos they are next to.

Next to utter chaos:

I have a 30g tank and it’s my first bare bottom. After making the switch, I don’t think I’m ever going back to having a sand bed. The flow is important and I’ve had to experiment a lot while trying to dial it in. Having enough flow to clear out detritus without upsetting particular corals is a delicate balance.

A few weeks ago I got a brittle star, and he is extremely useful. His crawling/scavenging under the rocks has helped clear out little pockets of “dust” that can accumulate under the rocks. I’d highly recommend one!
