I received a beautiful Trachyphyllia today and to my dismay it has a section of skeleton exposed in the shipping bag. The response from the vendor below. In my experience they don't recover. Should I push harder for a credit?? Trying not to be nasty, their stuff is usually healthy.

emails below:
The corals arrived here as expected on time and we'll packaged. However the Trachyphyllia is bleach white on the lower half indicating poor health. It will most likely not survive this. I'll dip it as you see fit. I have Oxolinic acid as well as various other dips. Your past shipments have always been healthy However this is not an acceptable specimen. Please advise.
Response:

Thank you for your message. I understand your concern about Trachyphiilia . Shipping stress can sometimes cause corals to recede, which might explain the bleached lower half. However, it’s a good sign that the coral isn't torn. To help it recover, I recommend placing it in a shaded area of your tank with low to moderate flow and stable water parameters. You can also use a gentle coral dip to help it recover from the stress.

Please by all means keep me updated on the progress.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to reach out!

Looking for advice on the handling of the vendor. Not how to care for an injured Trachy. I have that part. Thanks for reading.

That isnt bleached flesh, that is in fact a tear and the white is the corals skeleton.. If you didn't already i would submit that photo to the vendor. I agree that the chances are small that it will recover from that tear in the flesh. Once you have clarified that it is not just bleached flesh but a tear then i would ask for a refund.

So yes I sent that photo along with several other. I didn't specify it was skeleton, I assumed that's obvious. Guess not? I'll resend it with clarity on that point. Thanks appreciate another few sets of eyes on it.

I had an item that was not injured that bad, but still clearly broken, I put it in the tank, I let the vendor know, and it has recovered quite nicely. I know you are giving that a go, but until its doomsday that, and letting the vendor know, is all you can do.

Time will tell. If it goes south, the vendor response seemed reasonable so far, can't know how they will respond if the trachy gets worse/dies.
