Sounds like this fish can be complicated because it's habitat does not exist around a single rock outcropping. Many hobbies remain in the sub 100g realm of fist keeping and these size tank don't provide for different habitats that would need to be traversed. With my current tanks, I am unable to keep what I would consider to be swimming fish because of the compact size and nature; however, the Moorish idols appear to take this challenge to a whole new level. (Bonus)

It's an amazing fish, and I see why reefers are drawn to it. Seems like the natural biology of it make a glass box entirely inappropriate for it unless the reefer is willing to put in a load of extra work, like supplying sponges regularly, maybe making mini-foraging zones that get placed in different parts of the tank. Not for me, but I applaud anyone who's having success with moorish idols!

Glad to hear the moorish idol is doing a bit better in captivity than 2 decades ago, but this still seems like a species that belongs in the ocean or public aquariums. I was hoping to hear about some breakthrough the TSA team had with keeping them, but the information did not seem new. It is still important to make this information easily available to hobbyists though and Found the video informative.

After watching Tara’s’ in-depth discussion on the Moorish Idol, I’m really feeling like maybe not all fish are meant for our home tanks. Maybe leave it to the larger city aquariums to study and provide the vast space this incredible fish needs.
I applaud Taras for his clarity on ALL the things this fish needs to be in our homes. I only wish all the vendors would be so transparent and ensure the fish is going to a proper home. Thanks TSA for continuing to spread the knowledge vs just trying to get another $ through the door

I never realized just how specialized the species is! I had always thought that they were essentially tangs that liked eating your coral. I have never wanted a Moorish Idol for various reasons, but now I have a much higher appreciation for those who do keep them successfully.

THE DRAWING
Entries will be accepted through March 31, 2024. We will choose the winners via a random number generator. The winners will be announced on a live video stream by @BlaineTopShelfAquatics on April 1, 2024 and will also have their usernames tagged in this thread. We will not email or contact the winners other than tagging the winning names. Be sure to check back to claim your prize. If it is not claimed within 3 days we will do a re-pick and so on until the prize is claimed.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Winners will be responsible for shipping cost. Contest is restricted to participants in the Continental US. Participants can only win once, so multiple packages cannot be won by the same person. Travel cost and dates for grand prize will need to be coordinated with Top Shelf Aquatics based on availability and TSA's discretion.
