Haven’t been able to change water for 2 months due to extreme heat in Vegas so I decided to test.. my nitrates have crept up but p04 is still holding solid! Guess I’ll back off the aminos in my home made concoction.

What do you notice in corals from going so long without a WC? More pe? Color changes? Growth?
So…… I was doing about 30% changes every 2 weeks when weather permitted and I noticed that my growth would stall out every time I did one… I’ve came to the conclusion I was knocking my biome outta whack with a such large change. I guess? I suck at science haha! But from research and talking to Alan I think that’s what happened.. I started doing them once a month after that and my tank was cruising without issues… currently I haven’t noticed much difference but I do have little patches of cyano here or there on my rocks and I don’t know why.. don’t think anyone really knows why! People blame nutrients but that’s hog wash cause it’s common in zeo tanks with ulns, talking tanks near 0…

Do you dose Minors/Trace Elements Buddy? I cant recall what dosing method you use.
I never have because I relied on water changes and fish food to replenish them. I also use all for reef which contains them. Issue now is that I can’t change water for 3 more months till late September when it cools down out here in the devils den. I am using tropic Marin A&K for my first time ever. I have noticed a change in coloring on some of sticks which is interesting to say the least. My tank was lacking something and I’m not one to test or send in an icp as I think it’s a waste of money. I could see something being low cause my kalk top off does the bulk of the work which contains “none” and the all for reef picks up the slack the kalk doesn’t cover in the tank.. I’d guess I’m about a 70-30 ratio kalk/a4r. So for now till I can get on a wc schedule again I’ll be using the A&K and I dose 5ml daily of each component.

Could you use a white mini fridge or freezer for that extreme ,
drill a couple holes in , coil up some tubing ,plumb it though holding tanks ?
essentially a homemade chiller for outdoors ?... :)

This is possible.. my buddy has a frag system in his garage and he uses a large chest freezer to keep it cool.. he also has 1200 gallons of system with moving water which helps keep it cooler.. last time I mixed up a 60 gallon batch it was 95° ugh… I think I’m gonna move a brute trash can inside the house and least get a couple 40 gallon changes done to bring my n03 back into the range of 6-10 as it’s sitting at 16 currently. Wife is gonna kills me haha!

It’s just 3/4” plywood and three 2x4 horseshoes if that makes since.. like a staple on both ends and in the center.. no other framing

Very nice. Do you have overhead view of sump contents/layout? I read in another thread about you liking very simple sumps.

I don’t… it’s wide open with the skimmer and some baffles just before my return! This is an 125 gallon advanced acrylics sump that came with my tank so I used it. It has socks and dosing tube thingies but I don’t use any of that lol…

Gotta get a water change! Good thing I’ll be asleep when the wife gets home haha! She’s gonna kill me! It’s been like 4 or 5 months since I could change water and still way too hot! Ugh… tomorrow it should be fine after sitting in my house at 74 degrees over night. It’s only 50 gallons but I’ll take it!

What and eventful morning! I guess my inner sense was telling me to make that saltwater after not changing it for 4 months… sigh.. planned on changing water about right now when I got home from work! Fish gods had a different plan! Skimmer decided to overflow at 2am overflowing my locker and dumping about 15-20 gallons on my floors! Ato kicked in and dumped 20 gallons of super saturated kalk and wala! Leave work at 7am when the wife noticed water on the floor and Water change at 7:30 am! Ph spiked through the roof and it snowed! Locked up my return pump from precipitation which is beyond repair the bushings are gone ugh…: got my water change done and a mag 5 I use for mixing water as my return till my new one arrives some time tomorrow! All fish accounted for and zero coral casualties as of now they all look happy with polyps out! Rocks are bone white but hey what ever haha! Can’t get an all reading cause it’s still super cloudy rrrrr…. Time will tell what happens! That will never happen again now as I put a 1” drain on my locker instead of a couple 1/4” rodi lines. 74715187819__F41C7A0B-BEB5-46C0-8529-21DEFC82912D.jpeg

I know you know but make sure to get all the water so the floor doesn't absorb it and buckle.

Yeah it’s all up… besides under the stand… I’m sure that’s gonna be warped but that’s okay the tank ain’t going anywhere any time soon! If it does I can repair it then when I move a bigger one in to replace my pool table. Just don’t tell the wifey! :zipper-mouth-face:
