My tank is 10 gallons, and it’s about 8 months old….I wanted to tell everyone about it, and share some pictures of it. because it has made such an incredible transformation from a freshwater tank, to a fish only tank, to a good sized reef!!!….but just to give a little bit of background on the tank, it was my second freshwater tank. And it remained a freshwater tank for about 2 years, then the goldfish that was in the tank out grew it. So I moved the goldfish to a 29 gallon tank, and I decided I wanted this tank to be saltwater!

This is the tank at about month 1 right after it finished cycling! At this point, there was one clownfish and one foxtail coral in the tank….
IMG_7343.jpeg

Here’s the tank between month 4 and 5 I’m not sure….it has a few corals at this point, including: foxtail, leptastrea, pulsing Xenia, leather toadstool, and a Duncan….the tank also has three clownfish….

At about month six the tank crashed and I lost all the fish :crying-face: and almost lost the Duncan coral

Here it is today!!!! All the coral in the tank include: 3 chalice, 1 toadstool, 1 green star polyp, 1 frammer, 2 montiporas, 3 arcoporas, a cluster of Xenia, 1 Duncan, and 1 leptastera! The anemones include: 1 seabea, 3 bubble tips, and 3 rock flowers! The fish include: 4 clownfish fry, 1 full-grown calarkii clownfish, 1 three-striped-damsel, and 1 small yellow watchman goby!

Timmy glad you are enjoying your saltwater tank but you have as many fish in your 10 gallon as I have in my 40 breeder.
Clarki's can be very aggressive and need a larger tank. Probably best not to mix them with other clown species.
You might could do a pair a clowns in there without any other fish.

What are our phosphate and nitrate numbers?
How many water changes a week are you doing?

+1 I second this, That is far too many fish for a 10 gallon, i have a 26 gallon with just 3 fish. That clarki will need a bigger tank and will do much better with a partner clarki. Also is there any flow in the tank? because it looks quite stagnent and most of the corals you have in there require some to alot of flow.

I know my tank is over stalked…My nitrates are at 3 ppm and I do weekly 30% water changes and test the water every few days. All of the clownfish are extremely peaceful,
And as for the water looking stagnant…the filters were off for the picture, I run 2 filters and a skimmer.

Hey Tim! That's a great regimen to keep but lets be kinder to our fish friends and not coop them all up like that :)

hi guys, I thought I would update this thread a little bit…..I recently got a magnetic frag rack. when I bought it, the reviews said it was so strong, that when the magnets snapped together it would break glass….i overlooked that part when I bought it. I installed it this morning. When those magnets snapped together, it was so loud I thought the glass did break. But, luckily it didn’t. I moved some corals around this morning and the rack is currently holding 2 arcos and 2 montis.

This is a great care routine for what you have in the tank. Of course, I think a bigger tank would be preferable, but I understand that not everyone can/wants to. It seems that since you keep freshwater too, like me, you may have another tank that you could use in the future to upgrade if you wanted to. Tank is looking nice! Good job!

Sweet tank, and awesome pictures, I would remove nearly half of those fish though, keep the watchman goby and 2-4 fry, those adult clowns, even though are peaceful, may not be someday… I would personally move them to a bigger tank, I house 1 clown in my 11, I don’t want to, but I get yelled at if I put another fish in lol, cuz they are AGRESSIVE AS HECK

Not a bad tank! I agree with others that you might be a little overstocked on fish, and this could lead to issues later down the road for your tank.

Your tank is doing great! What made you decide to rehome 2 of your clowns?

For the frag rack magnets that snap together, I recommend what I did. From a craft store, like Joann Fabrics, buy a small sheet of felt and attach a cut piece of it to the magnet to stop the snapping. If the magnets are super strong, you may want to put on more than one piece.
