I've always burned insense and other things indoors, never had an issue, I keep excellent ventilation in my place. But I dont allow cleaning products or canned aerosols downstairs where my tanks are.

Just wondering how other reefers feel on the topic of burning incense in same room with aquarium.

Personally, I see too many conflicting arguments. I have my tank in my bedroom (20 foot by 15 foot) and I'd like to burn it across the room. Roughly 15 feet away. I know spraying airfreshener could introduce toxins and cigarettes aren't a good idea either. But what about "cleaner" smoke like an incense?

My tank has a canopy AND glass covering the roof of the tank and a semi closed stand with open top sump. What do you think?
Is it worth the risk? You need to be careful with aerosol sprays and sunscreen in particular. Even the kind that you rub on the skin.

I could imagine if we were able to see allvthe particles in he air and around us, including near our tank, this hobby probably would be dead on the spot. If the incense is away from the tank and there isnt a direct attack for fire or the electronics being exposed then have your space the way YOU want. Go for it!

My tank is going to be placed in my living room because it will be my zen spot. Place to unwind and relax and enjoy my tank. I dont partake in incense myself but candels are a must and its not to cover up smells but to make it homey and smell pleasant. Along with the tank in the room

I burn incense, candles, and other….””””stuff””” around my tank daily, I have never seen any effects. The stuff to be more cautious about is actually sprays that can contain ammonia, I believe

It's not that deep frends, the particles of smoke burning are much nicer to the room environment than something like a liquid chemical spray, even aerosol is wet before and after spray, it falls faster and disperses easier not to mention each individual particle is bigger, smoke doesn't fall like sprays do and it it does it can sit onto of other particles of smoke so only a very thin layer is in contact with the surface, while wet particles dont care about personal space and will pile up onto of each other and disperse without problem in the aquarium, smoke =thin, spray = thick, plus most of the chemicals get burned up and not present in smoke, although the smoke itself is ofc carcinogenic, I'm sure it's nowhere near as bad as dripping cleaning solutions slowly into the tank

This is funny, we worry about what floats around in the air getting into out tank. But we will dump any bottle of crap the industry tells us to directly into the tank.
I've got the American super power of sueing if they sell me something that kills my animals lol

I've alway thought this only applies to your own health. I mean you need to pay your lawyer and they aren't cheap right. How much more than the selling price can you get for a fish or coral?

There are these Internet legends of you guys microwaving your dogs and getting million dollars of payments but i don't reall believe these stories.

Well if you live anywhere in a city then you must never open a window as you will let in toxic particles from the many vehicles on the road outside. If you are wearing polyester then you NEED to switch to cotton or the microfiber will drift into your tank and clog up your fish's gills. They'll die in minutes. Same goes for carpet and rugs. Most are made up of recycled pop bottles and and shed material constantly. You must not ever cologne or perfume... or use soap with fragrance either or any soap at all for that matter. You can't ever wash it ALL off and when you dry off bits of your skin flake off, some containing the alkaline and toxic chemicals used in commercial soaps. It takes only one of these skin flakes to strip an entire tank of life. If you need more guidance on how to live when keeping a tank of fish, referring to the movie 'Gattica'. It'll answer all your questions.

Seriously tho. As long as your not hotboxing in the same room as the tank you'll probably be fine.

My wife set up two of the self spraying dispensers in the house last month.
One in the bathroom and one in the living room. My tank is in the living room about 10 feet away. Indirect spray to the tank. Every 36 minutes it sprays from the can. I do have a hood on the tank. So far nothing has happened. I don't think anything will happen. Time will tell.

Make them disappear, then when she notices act like you never knew they were there, repeat the process until there are no replacements, just tell her it's strange... :)

I do the same thing with dishes break a few of her favorites, you'll never have to wash dishes again, either that or you'll have to put in a dishwasher..surprising what you can get away with by playing ignorant lol hahaha

I have a no smoke of any kind rule, tho gummies are best 45 minutes before the lights shift to blue
Thats pretty much what I have been doing lately. I have depression (self diagnosed and self medicated) have been an alcoholic most of my life. I quit drinking and started gummies a few weeks ago and feel better than I can ever remember feeling. Momma doesn't like it much tho because my senses are on high alert and she can't sneak anything by me :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: I'll be glad when they legalize it in my state. Fortunaly I'm only and hour and a half away from a state that has it legalized.
