Just this morning I lost both my clownfish.. they were in a 40g breeder with live rock and sand. The tank has been running for almost 5 months now I believe. I haven’t tested any parameters yet as I wanted to set up a qt tank as fast as I could to save her. Yesterday they seemed perfectly normal I did notice they didn’t want to eat yesterday I didn’t really think anything of it. And this morning I woke up to my male clown dead.. he didn’t have anything noticeable on him but after removing him I noticed my female was shedding her slime coat very badly… and no I never set up a quarantine tank only because I have 4 other freshwater tanks in my room currently and didn’t wanna find more space for a quarantine tank.. lesson learned… I’m actually devastated that I lost my black and white female she was my first every salt water fish and I completely let her down… anyways I rushed to the store as soon as I could to buy a 10g tank and set up a quarantine tank for her so I could at least save her but when I returned home she was already gone… I kinda hate myself rn and I know they’re just fish but she was amazing.. had a bunch of energy always watched me while I was on my computer and she ate like a pig… anyways here’s some pics of her passed away.. she looked the same inside my tank with all her slime coat coming off and it was the worst thing to see this morning.. now I don’t even know what to do anymore.. do I continue to set up my qt tank? I feel defeated and kinda don’t wanna go saltwater anymore.. I’ve owned my freshwater tanks for over two years now and haven’t lost any fish besides one giant betta..
Here’s some pics if anyone can help me clarify if this was due to brooklynella? Currently there’s only an algae blenny left in that tank and idk if he’s even alive or not he only comes out randomly and so far I haven’t seen him yet.. I hope he’s okay but most likely he’s gone too and probably under some rocks that I can’t even see.. what do I do now?:/ my head and heart are hurting …
I believe all the spots you see on her is just the sand she was at the bottom making a little sand dune when I noticed how bad she was this morning so I’m not sure what to think anymore

Here’s a closer look
Clown appears to be brooklynella disease or bacterial
Up to point Of loss, was fish swimming wierd, hiding or gasping?

Mmmm no they weren’t swimming weird at all and not hiding they were both normal and this morning my male was just dead he didn’t look anywhere near how my female looks like in the picture. He was just gone and about an hour or two later the female died :/ I wish I could’ve gotten her out sooner but the fish stores didn’t open in time ..

The unfortunate thing is that mucus production can accompany almost every illness - so more history is important (since I'm not sure why fish in your tank would get brooklynella after 5 months - barring a shock of sorts to the system (which I would assume you'd have said) - or a new recent addition? Second - I'm not sure it's brooklynella - given that other fish are sick as well (i.e. could be velvet). Did you Qt the fish with copper, etc

Thank you I appreciate the kind words. I really don’t wanna quit but it’s pretty discouraging especially being my first saltwater tank I just feel like I’m not fit enough to handle it or something idk what I did wrong tbh.

I'm so sorry this is happened to you! It's heartbreaking!

I had something similar happen in my fresh tank and no one local had copper... I had to wait for Amazon like you waited for the fish store to open.
Yeah it is :/ and now I still haven’t seen my algae blenny yet I’m expecting he’s gone too.. but I just don’t have the energy to move all my rocks and try to find is body :/

Sorry to see. Were there any surviving fish in the tank? That can help identify if it was brooklynella or velvet.
No unfortunately not I mean I have a algae blenny somewhere but I can’t find him in my tank he usually comes out when the lights are on but I haven’t seen him yet today so I’m guessing he’s gone too

This may sound like a depressing suggestion but I personally would allow the tank to run 5-7 weeks without fish first doing a water change. In about 3 weeks, set up a separate tank for quarantine and add the first fish or two to the quarantine tank and allow the display to continue without fish. After a month in quarantine tank (which will equal 7 weeks) acclimate to display and how they do the first month Before adding additional fish

I really know what you mean and actually over a couple weeks my whole 55 gal died off and I'm having to restart. This is definitely frustrating for both of us but trust me if we can get the result we want it will be 100% worth it

I will do just this’ I have the qt tank but I haven’t set it up yet I was going too until she died..
so should I do a water change now? And how much should I change ? I have a 40 gallon. And after the three weeks should I add new saltwater or the water from my dt? I have no intention in adding fish for a while as this hurt pretty bad..
