Hopefully, fingers crossed. I just got it a few days ago.Injury to the mantle will heal. The third hole is an injury or tissue breakdown. As long as the clam is doing well it should heal with no scar or problem.
I have to agree.To my eye that clam appears to be gaping which is not so good.

As a beginner clam buyer, I have to admit I should’ve done more research before purchasing it. After reading up, I realised I didn’t know a lot about clams!New clams can exhibit “gaping” which is completely normal, but should subside in a few days. It’s rare, but clams can have an extra exhalent siphon, but most likely an injury or possibly a bite from a fish? True gaping is serious, so keep an eye on it and see if anything changes? Double check parameters as well. How long did you acclimate the clam to your tank?

I didn’t inspect the mouth as closely as I should. The shop lights were very blue.
I also committed the sin of just dropping the clam in straight.
That's really good newsAfter 6 days, I'm happy to report that the third hole is slowly closing up.
The clam shifted more towards the right hence the slight blur in the image.
