Well, Halichoeres bivittatas is slippery, and can be *allegedly* a dikc, so kudos to whoever got that right.
I don’t know what a “pudding-wife” is so I can’t say whether that wrasse has an accurate name

Nice Earl’s! Good looking fish!

Is that a rainbow basslet? Does it get along with others? Any aggression issues? I have been considering getting one for a few weeks now.

thank you!

and no aggression from the rainbow basslet…
even had a harlequin shrimp in there to control asterina that he completely left alone.

from time to time he’ll open his mouth to chase off fish from his cave,
but it’s just posturing.

Has anyone ever had a wrasse perk up after shipping stress? I just had a McCosker's and Exquisite come in today and while the McCosker's seems to be doing okay the Exquisite was laying on its side in the bag. I acclimated it and it is in the tank, but I noticed as I was releasing it into the tank as a last ditch effort it was unable to move its right fin as well, so it kind of spiraled down to the bottom in a little hiding spot on the rock. Is it pretty much moribund or is there still hope for the little guy?

Was the water really cold in the shipping bag? Were these quarantined by the shipper?

When i recived my exquisite he looked very much on the death bed. So i set him up in a acclimation box. The next morning still alive but still laying on its side looking very much dead. Some time the next day (48hr after reciveing) i put a bit of frozen food in the box, and he went ballistic. Tossed him out the box and has been happy and heathly since.
Similar to a Mccosker wrasse when i recived. Looked dead/dieing. Within 2 days he was zippin through the tank.
Very poor shippers at times.

Okay so there is some hope, but what about the fin issue? I'm worried it may have gotten an injury and it can't move the fin

Also would you recommend putting a rock or something in the box, or should it be fine in a bare bottom?

I’ve gotten wrasse that looked practically dead on arrival that perked up after a several hours.

I agree with @Trixter227 adive and if you can get a bit of rock in the box it may help the wrasse be comfortable and recover.

Hopefully that's the case with this little guy. Man, wrasses don't make it easy on the blood pressure, do they
Nope
Luckily most of their issues are at the beginning and once you get them past shipping stress and acclimation they are usually easy.

My next worry would be with the immobilized fin. Is that also a common side effect of shipping stress?
I don’t know could be stunned or could be permanent. Fish can survive bad injuries though. My ruby longfin broke its spine early on and somehow survived and does great.

Yes there is hope. This babi came in motionless in water that was in the low 50’s. Laying sand over night then burried. A week later came out like nothing happened. Growing bigger every day.

Unfortunately he was gone by the time I got home from work. The McCosker’s is thriving though, chilling in his little hidey hole for now but came out to take food when I fed the tank
