Looking to add a black leopard wrasse to my 75 gallon

anyone have any experience? Or recommend something else?
I have one they take time to adjust, Ensure you have lots of pods, I add all the time. Plus I feed ROE ( Algae Barn Dragon Roe). there are plenty of others , Also other meaty foods, Mysis, Squid,, Pellets and freeze dried Mysis. Need to be feed 2-4 times per day. Mine hid in sand for over a week. then it hime about a month or more to adjust to my tank schedule. Wait For I can t think, Stoke , Brown, Jojosreef SaltyT I know I am missing some of the others here that taught me so much about Wrasses.

I need more wrasse in my life.

I only have a Yellow Coris (Halichoeres Chrysus according to google), and a Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides Dimidiatus apparently).
Sometimes I see some nice examples in some of my LFS (there were a few different leopard wrasse, Melanarus & a nice big Red Coris & even a fair wrasse), but I always hesitate with potentially purchasing because I worry about adding one that'd cause problems with existing inhabitants.
Definitely not a red coris. This is why i hate it that people label the yellow wrasse as a coris when they aren't at all closely related:
Not Coris wrasse! This is becoming my biggest pet peeve...
Probably need to spend some good time studying that Wrasse Guy chart even though I think there's some types missing?
I believe he only has a fairy wrasse chart so it would only have fairy wrasse. A good addition to your tank would be a fairy or two or five, and/or flasher wrasse. Then a leopard would also be a great addition if you can find a healthy one.

Thanks. I’m not sure I’ll be able to fully accommodate this fish. Any other wrasse that you would suggest?

Most of the Fairy and Flashers will work just remember all Wrasses need 2-4 feedings a day. they are very active and need energy. Maybe consider Auto feeder

Appreciate the info and suggestion. I'll definitely have to check out that chart to look at adding some more in future. Would be great to have a lively/happy tank watch.

Wish there was a chart for the other types as well :)

Beautiful fish. I'd like one, but next tank.

If you find a leopard that is already eating and awake during the day, it might be an easy addition to your tank. My M. bipartitis is not at all picky. Loves TDO pellets, loves ROE, and really love when I feed hatched baby brine shrimp or the refrigerated pods from Reef Nutrition.

Agree with above. Feed as many times a day as you can. They will eat. I have autofeeders going 4x/day, and I try to add hatched baby brine shrimp or, if no BBS ready, a squirt of Reef Nutrition mysis feast right into the gyre powerhead.

Update on the wrasses:

C. brunneus fully settled in and already knows the liquid autofeeder schedule (swims right under the drop zone as soon as the retun pumps go off).

Pinkies getting more bold. I did see the brunneus charge a pinkie at feeding time, but don't think it'll be too much of a problem. Once the liquid food hits the gyre flow, it blows around everywhere. Upped the daily feed volume from 22mL to 24mL.

Pig and leopard are doing well and so far showing no aggression. They are THICK. Growing up so fast :crying-face:

I am not adding those small wrasses anymore (Pink-Streaked and Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse).
My plan now is to add a Yellow “Pig” Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus), a Royal Gramma and a Longnose Hawkfish.
The Longnose Hawkfish should be the last one?

Guys, how does it end if I add a Yellow Coris Wrasse H. chrysus to an already established H. melanurus?
Just want to be sure they wont get aggressive towards eachother.
Depends on the Melanurus and the Chrysus (not a Coris). I have a Melanurus and a Leucoxanthus (similar to the Chrysus) in a 6' tank with no aggression but there is plenty of territory. In fact, they'll often swim together and even pick at the same rocks. My Mel is an almost fully transitioned male and my Leucoxanthus is starting to transition so we'll see if the camaraderie keeps up.

Well, that sounds like I need to stay away...
I just thought it might look very cool to have a yellow fish in the tank :)
Imo a yellw wrasse is as nice as a yellow tang - and the price is juicy in comparision.

Look at the Leucoxanthus or the Chrysus. Like I said, my Mel was first, Leuco was second. Mel was already in transition when I added him, Leuco was added almost a year later and was barely an inch and a half. I haven't seen any aggression from either. They have dissimilar body shapes in my opinion and may not see each other as a threat.

My recommendation is, if you want one be prepared to remove and rehome or relocate if any aggression occurs.

I will add that there are several on this thread that have multiple fish that are not recommended to house together that are seeing minimal or no problems. Each fish is different and you'll never know until you try. Again, be prepared to do what you need to do if problems arise.

I would add that though a melanarus is one of the more aggressive Halichoeres I believe that the yellow isn’t actually that close of a relative. Therefor they may get along pretty well.
I have 3 Halichoeres in a 5ft tank and they do just fine.

I had 3 in my 6' tank (until the Garnoti went for an air swim...)

What liquid auto feeder do you use? I’ve been considering trying something like that for a while, but don’t want to get too crazy in terms of complexity.

And you better tell the brunneus that there’s a zero tolerance policy for picking on the little guys!

My three most peaceful guys were having a meeting today about what to do about the mean coral beauty that has been chasing people haha

Rhomboid usually doesn’t let me take photos, but her interest in seeing if I had more food let me take a few of her color/fins as they continue to change.

The rhomboid and rose-banded were to two left on my “holy grails” on my list that I hadn’t owned yet. And I’m glad I finally got to it.

Getting a small female and watching/documenting her transition into a male has been the most enjoyable experience in my time reefing to date!

Here’s a photo from the day I got her in April, and another from last night (tough talking the exquisite wrasse):

Or, they are meeting to discuss what to do about that delicious, beautiful meat coral in front of them!

I just started feeding my fish lobster eggs today, I couldn't find fish eggs.
The fish love it, and my leopard wrasse was very happy.

I'm going to make a mixture of brine, mysis and lobster eggs so the fish get more variety in each day.
Where did you get the lobster eggs? When you make the mix, you keep it in the fridge? How long does it keep?
