I’m grabbing him and the female. The choats will not be happy with them in the tank so not sure if I’m keeping them. Maybe the female as choats should be more gentle to a female.
Need to think about this one but couldn’t pass them up. Also they need to live a week before I can get time to pick them up.

Will it be ok to keep a serpent/brittle star with a wrasse? Are they going to be dismembered like crustaceans or do they tend to leave stars alone?

My Choati and Black leopard get along fine, never seen them look at each crossed eyed,

I have a male and female choats. The male is the problem. Male leopards can be pretty aggressive. He wont allow a female meleagris. Also a large male Viviens that can be pushy

Starfish are not on the diet of most wrasse. Just the biggest and baddest.

My Melanurus is big and bad. At least when it comes to micro brittle stars.

I've read that the ideal temperatures for them are between 22-24 degrees Celsius/71-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Would this temperature be possible to maintain in a reef tank without causing damage to the other livestock?

It's apparently very rare to see a male in the wild or occurring in captivity, but I'm not sure whether we've been keeping these fish in captivity to have much knowledge on when they will transition. (This was just me thinking in writing, not important at all).

From what I've seen, the recommended minimum tank size for them once full grown is at least a 6 foot tank, at about 250-300 gallons. I don't know how accurate this info is, just the average from what I've read online.
I'm currently planning an upgrade to a much larger system than my current tank, and the tanks I'm looking at are in this size range.

Would it be unwise to consider one even with a solid upgrade plan coming in the next 2 years?

The tank size has already been covered by i cant think, so I'll just cover the other livestock. I think other fish would be fine in the lower temps, just not as active. You could choose corals such as LPS from deeper waters that would be cooler temps or things like Micromussa lordhowensis from cooler regions or research corals from the Lennardi's natural region.

My old timor would tear legs off the red and black brittle stars, even the big ones. The broomtail (which I guess is a big and bad) will happily eat them.

Yup. Here's a YouTube clip of a wild adult saddleback wrasse (Thalassoma duperrey) eating a brittle star.


They eat urchins too, as this YouTube clip shows nicely with a wild adult broomtail wrasse (Cheilinus lunulatus) eating a longspine urchin.

I'm a noob. Never had a Wrasse in my life and I've been doing this a long time.
But here's mine. He's a fiesty feller this morning. I really love this fish.
he's even moody as to what food he'll take. Sometimes he loves pellets and sometimes, he's like "whatever dude..." He loves frozen food though.

He just got some new tankmates shortly after this picture, but so far no trouble.
He went over and checked out my flame hawk and my midas blenny and now he's going about his business.
Hopefully this remains as such. LOL

I'm going to add a really awesome wrasse in a while. Just going to let some time pass for now.

He's doing really well. he has plenty of hiding spaces and sand to burrow in and he's a good eater.
He is having a good time schooling with the chromis right now. No aggression to the other fish either.
