Disaster has struck in the nano…
One pink streak is laying in the corner, the other is nowhere to be seen same with the Isosceles. My Leopard is visible but laying low.

I have no idea what has caused this but my inverts are dying, my corals are bleaching, most of my fish are hiding if not dead… fingers crossed. I have no idea what to do to recover them. Guess Ph Plus is the cause as that’s the only thing that’s changed in that tank (I swapped from AFR).

Massive water change? I can see one of your corals in the back looking bleached. Seems like a major chemistry change. Fingers crossed!

1st fish loss… it couldn’t have been a goby or anything could it? Just had to be the Isosceles. And one of the Pinkies looks to be swimming badly and my Leopard has a red marking on her side as well as she is swimming on her side.

It’s risky especially with a sixline. You already have one wrasse from that genus and that genus is known for being aggressive to other wrasse.

Yea that’s what I figured since they’re both lined wrasses. I’ll probably move the six line to the frag tank.

What does this KH keeper do if it measures KH above your set point? Add some form of acid? If it meadures a false high KH does it sink your pH? I don’t trust these devices to have full control. I have a Trident but I don’t let it control my dosing pumps. I hope you get this figured and don’t lose any more livestock.

Luckily, the Kh Keeper doesn’t dose accordingly to how low or high the Alk is, instead it’s me who doses depending on how high it is. It was starting to go rather low (6.72) so I swapped to try and up it to 8-9 and now it’s sat at 9.19 so it’s remaining fairly stable between 8 and 9 (sometimes rising to the lower 10s or lowering to the upper 7s).

Well I feel your pain. Nothing worse than having a tank that been doing well for years take a dive from an issue that isn’t entirely clear.

That’s the same thing I woke up to this morning, almost all Acros RTNed, and the last remaining SPS are my Monti’s who are mostly going through RTN.
Still remaining are;
The mushrooms I hate in this tank (there’s a reason I have a colony in the 4’, to enjoy it in there and not in the SPS system).
My Astreopora montiporina
Acan echinata (pumpkin patch)
Candy Apple Zoas but they’re closed up
Ironman Favia
Oh and the clams, 2 shrimp and 6 fish

Out of every coral, if I find my Astreopora starting to go downhill I think that’ll hit me the hardest.

In my case it was a massive ALK spike(from 7 to 15 in an hour or so), and it remained that way for almost a full day(I go to work when my lights are off, and typically don't get home till 12 hours later) when I got home from work to see the devastation.

Honestly, my all is balanced out at mostly 8-9 but can go into the low 10s and higher 7s. But this has almost always happened for the last year the tank was set up. Not a single issue for the corals.

I find it ironic that for the week or two I neglected the tank, it thrived yet as soon as I begin to care for it everything dies. Everyone was hyping up Reef zelements Ph Plus so I finally did the switch on Saturday. Lesson learnt, don’t ignore your own advice you give to others:

‘If everything is thriving, don’t change anything. Even if you can’t keep a certain species of coral, don’t bother trying to change something as you may mess it up for the other corals/fish/inverts that thrive.’

Been there done that for sure.

I have always used Randy's DIY 2 part(baking soda for ALK, calcium chloride driveway ice melter for CAL). When A4R came out, I gave it a try. Never could get the dosage proper, and it caused all sorts of issues. Went back to DIUY 2 part, and everything settled down.

My take away, don't try to "fix" whats not broken.

Hopefully you get it figured out. One thing I hate more then most, having such a massive die off, and not knowing what caused it. If you figure it out, you feel a little better knowing you can prevent it in the future. Not knowing means you have no way to prevent it from happening again.
