Sorry to keep asking questions, but does anyone have any info on the Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura)?

I haven't found much, and have no idea whether they would play nice with other fairy wrasse once established.

If you didn’t ask questions many here would be bored all day lol.
I recommend a plan when adding wrasse. 2-3” females and adding in groups. Best to add them before any wrasse get established and that happens fast.

I sent these photos to my old man and he said “wow” and asked if I could get him one.

Are these relatively friendly? I don’t know much about these guys and their temperament. My initial concern is that the shape and profile of the fish is similar enough to the exquisite that there might be issues. But I’d like to look into getting him one if these guys are peaceful

Ha all my “least aggressive wrasse” are the ones who chew up all the others. Pintail killing lineatus, earl loves to taste all wrasse and a flame the devil aborted him. I’m sure few others

One last wrasse myth
They are good for pest control. Tankful of wrasse but a few things crawled off a torch. Not one wrasse cared or even looked at it twice lol
But they do transition

Fairy wrasse. As close as possible can make things little easier. If you want 3 then best to get 3 or one then two. Spreads out any initial aggression. Sometimes fairy’s can be tricky for me. But when adding to established fairy wrasse I’d do recommended an acclimation box to introduce new wrasse and it’s best in groups.

This isn’t a rule but it can make it easier at times. Don’t stress or drive yourself crazy trying to follow it but if possible it helps

I wonder. Some of my wrasse don’t ever go after anything except food but my tamarin and leopard are constantly eating off the rocks and while my sump is infested with flat worms, copepods, Amphipods, chitons, etc I’ve never seen any in my DT. I just wish they’d eat asterinas.


Also my dragon loves hunting bristle worms and whatever else she finds under rocks. I may start adding infested rocks to watch her have fun.

I have a few hunters but they only go for meaty amphipods. Most don’t even look. The little tamarin and meleagris only eat pods. Mele ate in qt but choats kept her hiding for months. Adorned is my biggest hunter. I do have a pair of mandarins. My thoughts are mandies get small pods and wrasse can have the big ones lol

Longfin drop off the list they are aggressive. Also the blue sided maybe be little pushy for the Brunneus. Others may know more but your tank is on smaller side for wrasse.

I have a rubeus and a lunatus (very similiar to brunneus) together and they are super peaceful. Of course all fish are different as shown by my third fairy which is a fairly aggressive exquisite.

My Leucoxanthus is the most active in my tank and seems to be the more easy going and peaceful inhabitant in my tank.

I recommend dropping C. cyanopleura off the list, it gets big and will bully the smaller fairy wrasses you have planned. The rest of your list looks good. C. brunneus is one of my favorite fairy wrasses. I love their unique look and red eyes. Very cool little wrasse. Post pics for us
