Ha. Exactly. The algae scraper set the boundary for lateral growth.
Important lesson there. I chose the 6' wide 125 g tank because that shape fits best in the living room. But now I know the narrow front to back dimension really limits what you can do with the aquascape. There's just not enough depth to still have large colonies AND significant negative space. Unfortunately, I couldn't justify the expense of replacing a functional system at this time--using the same tank for SPS Tank 2.0 means I'm fated to still fall short of my ultimate goal, but I think I'll get closer. And I'm sure I'll discover new tidbits that I'll be able to implement when I can swing my next dream tank purchase....

So true With coral, especially sps, is think that the deeper you can go front to back the better.

Tried to place my SPS with future growth in mind. Need some help with the top left and bottom right though, I think I see a battlebox in my future...

The original post of this thread really resonates with me. I try and keep this in mind when placing corals in my large exhibits. Here are a couple pictures of some of my tanks.

Sulawesi Beach Exhibit:

Close up of my favorite spot where the corals have really begun to fill in. This is actually from about 10 months ago so they are much closer now!

Indo Pacific Reef Tank. This tank lost a battle with heavy metals recently, but hopefully those issues are solved at it will comeback to something similar, but with prettier corals The soft corals and gorgonians were not affected, but almost all acropora and montipora died.

Older picture, but I have always liked the way the fish were posed in this picture:

My 2 years anniversary coming up the purple slimer is getting big. My vision for the tank is a forest of staghorn with 100 of damsels reside. I have 20 different stags in the tank ready to grow n become a staghorn forest.
