That Random Nano!

So, since the cyano is on its way out I thought I’d try and get a fish that helps with the sand bed and keeping it stirred. My LFS has two beautiful court jester gobies in (Both hectori and no rainfordi), I got the smaller of the two and am very excited to have him in the tank. Screw the thought of I have too many gobies, these fish are very much like wrasses in how addictive they are to watch. It so glad I have a new genus in the tank!!! Just to wait and be patient for the naoko and blue star to grow out then get the dream of a jawfish that I don’t lose to jumping for once.

He went in a few minutes ago and has settled right in!!

completely different to my other fish in there, I’m very happy I now have activity on the sandbed to lower water column, it’s funny how coincidentally I have 3 wrasse, 3 gobies then just the blenny in the middle haha. Absolutely love this fish and I’m so glad I picked him over a rainfordi since the gold stripes are VERY vibrant. If I stood far away the first fish I’d be brought to would be the hectori in terms of colour and the naoko in terms of size.

A bit of aggression from the yasha but not much, it was just a swim out of the cave to show it’s his territory.

At this point, living with it. I’ve been battling cyano for about two years now, finally dragging the salinity down. next month, the plan is to move the boxer into the 4’ tank and get some more inverts that would vanish in the larger tank.
Hopefully I can try a clam in march (It’s on the list of dream coral/inverts I would love to get).

My dream things to try are:
- Clams (Crocea due to them being the smallest, maybe a deresa however I think when the time comes to it needing a larger tank, the CBB will have something to say)
- Blue Staghorn (I owned a green that thrived in my 4’ and was wanting to find some more)
- Some easier acros such as red planets
- Forest Fire or Bubble Gum Milonti Digitata
- A darker colour SPS

did you ever ask @vetteguy53081 if he has an opinion regarding your cyano issue?
I guess theres always a way to get rid off cyano and stuff like diatoms or GHA.

Me personally I just cant accept ugly stuff in my tank - I get crazy about that. But if you are doing fine with it - then thats absolutely ok.

Regarding your dream: I guess those corals and the clam shouldnt be a problem to keep.

Yeah, when dealing the the uglies in my 4’ I went haywire and I’m the beginning of the uglies, I had a descent into madness with it. 1 year passed in a 15g and I was just sat there in absolute pain trying to figure out what it was. I started in a fresh tank with 20g, Gained it gain and still couldn’t get why.
I have always wanted to own a clam but have also owned CBBs in the tanks and my 15g nano was originally fresh water. I finally gave into the hopes of owning a clam and transitioned that 15g to saltwater. Now cyano is on its way out and GHA it rising… Not looking forward to that outbreak, however if I wind up with having to tackle two phases of the uglies at once (GHA and Diatoms) I will go crazy.

Before attempting clams, gain control if your water. If you have cyano- your phos and nitrate are likely elevated in which clams cannot tolerate
Cyano is also photosynthetic, so lower light, add 1.5ml of liquid bacteria per 19 gallons during the day and even 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10gallins at night
Less white light you provide, the less cyano will thrive
Clams:
Salinity no higher than 1.025
Nitrate no higher than 15
Alk no higher than 11
Ca no higher than 450
Temp no higher than 80
Ph no higher than 8.3
Phos no higher than.04

I use Red Sea test kits, I do use RO/DI. The results from the test:
Nitrates - Between 0mg/l and 10mg/l
Phosphates - Above 2.0 mg/l
I’ll do the trace elements now

So by the looks of this, only yesterday did my Phos rise, yesterday my Duncan retracted and didn’t come back out, still remained retracted today.

The hectors goby is not eating frozen but I don’t know if that’s due to him not established to the tank yet or what. He sifts the sand though and has put some on the rock now so I can probably keep him alive for a while (And he may grab a liking to the mysis or brine).

Good news amongst all the chaos!! What I thought was a dead Pom Pom crab was just it’s shed. Gave me an absolute panic when I saw him alive though. Forget getting lost in large tanks, he vanished for almost a month in this tank and went unseen for 20 days!

Those anemones are looking big too haha, wonder what species they are, hmm… worth a quick google search for sure!
