Well, I have been battling high salinity recently with it hitting .035 later on in the week. The cause of this was already high salt water going into it, my LFS has their salt water sat at .030. I used a spectrometer to check the SG in the barrel and it was set to .030, I then poured the water into a big bucket to mix some RO/DI with it and lowered it to 0.028. I’ll gradually bring the water down to .020-.025 and then gradually bring it up to .025.

Also, a bit better news. I added some more to the rockwork to add some more height to look more like a reef edge. I’ll probably try get some more rock to add more height but for now here’s what’s new:

The new Aquascape looks great! I had a similar issue a couple of months ago, really does suck. I’ve started doing almost no water changes and things are much happier!

Yeah, my LFS used to have their water sold as .025 but ever since one guy left, it’s been sat at .030 which is a pain.

Also how did your water reach 0.035 when the water was 0.030? There must be something else to increase it like that

Death struck again, it was my Pom Pom crab this time which really was upsetting, I have my assumption on the culprit being my Dwarf Boxer Shrimp… it’s anemones look like they were ripped off or got lost. It was the one animal I looked forward to watching when it comes to my tank at night.

My plan is:
This month will be lowering my salinity in both tanks to see how the corals are and then next month or later this month will be moving the dwarf boxer into the 4’ tank and getting more inverts that get along for my tank (A couple more peppermints and a Pom Pom is on the list for now). And possibly try some easier SPS in my 4’ tank but I don’t know yet.

Good luck! That boxer shrimp sure seems hungry. Do you have inverts in the 4’ tank?

Two 3” skunk cleaners which I doubt he would ever mess with.

Do you have plans of ever adding other inverts to the 4’ tank?

Think long and hard about it. I personally think the boxer shrimp is pretty limiting in your options. Unless you really like the shrimp, would rehoming the boxer be an option?

I probably won’t be able to add smaller inverts into that tank with the Jade wrasse, if she gets rehomed I’ll probably go with a second iridis which could potentially limit off smaller inverts in that tank. Also I think they’re more caves for the inverts to hide in in that tank compared to this tank so I could probably manage it if I did the right steps.

Good idea!

Are you ever going to use chemi clean for the cyano? Just wondering. :)

It’s dying off for now, if it’s truly needed I probably will - So far it’s finding it hard to fight the lower salinity off.

Sorry for the loss! Keep your head up, it’ll get better. Just get that salinity sorted and stable and things will be much better.

Another quick update! I pulled the trigger after thinking about it - There was a bit of confusion with the guy who bagged him because I said what America tends to call them (Black clown gobies) but then realised the scientific name is the best way forward. They then recognised it and it’s called a Midnight Coral Goby over here. Here’s a photo of my little guy (I put paper towel over a small gap in the corner that I fear he could jump out of in the night). 67CA469D-BCF2-4C6B-A4E4-BA002032456B.jpeg
It’s shocking on how he was about .5” back then and he’s now Atleast 1.5”! Also, the new corals have some nice extension especially the Duncan. I think I may end up with a goby dominant tank. I still want the jawfish but I may try grab either a second BCG or a completely different species of goby. I also got a good photo of my yasha finally!

Also got a rather nice photo of the BCG riding the blenny the other day.

Got some nice photos of the naokoae and bipartitus.

I got some photos of the PE of the Duncan and GSP, the candy cane seems to have just the head (It fell on the sand and I keep forgetting to grab it off the sand, I’ll do that after I’ve gotten the photos of the Duncan and GSP though). Duncan:

Also, I assume this is diatoms now crawling in to our compete the cyano?

So, since the cyano is on its way out I thought I’d try and get a fish that helps with the sand bed and keeping it stirred. My LFS has two beautiful court jester gobies in (Both hectori and no rainfordi), I got the smaller of the two and am very excited to have him in the tank. Screw the thought of I have too many gobies, these fish are very much like wrasses in how addictive they are to watch. Im so glad I have a new genus in the tank!!! Just to wait and be patient for the naoko and blue star to grow out then get the dream of a jawfish that I don’t lose to jumping for once.
